Bulldog Boredom

Hi everyone..just looking for suggestions of how to keep Gemma from getting bored and distroying everything in site. At this point all of my wood chair legs are chewed, the corner of the couch and so on. I'm going to get the bad tasting stuff to put on the furniture but I need to find something for her to do to occupy her time. This may have been partly from lack of exercise..after I was told she had epilepsy I wanted her to take it easy but now she is out of control! I am crating her when we aren't home. It seems like every toy I give her only lasts a day until it is in throw away condition. What should I do?????

Nylabones........

Very durable and will last quite a long time. I also like the "Kong" toys as well. IMO.....the nasty tasting spray doesn't work at all. Each and everytime an attempt is made to chew on something that is not supposed to be chewed on......stick that nylabone in the mouth! You have to stay on top of the situation. Eventually you will find it works. Good luck

Do they have Kong toys where you are?

My guys could never chew a kong to death. And I have a house full of hard, solid chewers!! Try a Kong toy, they even have ones that have a hollow core that you can put treats into so the dog will be at the toy until they get the treats out. I also use the Nylabones....my girls love them:-)

You could try a deer antler- I believe Grateful Shed has been

recommended here on the board.   I use nylabones and stuff Kongs with canned dog food that I then freeze.  I also like Nature's Variety frozen raw bones.

I need to freeze the treats

I need to freeze the treats inside, that is a good idea.

BTW..I love your dogs pictures!! :)

my dog gets bored pretty fast

my dog gets bored pretty fast with the kong if there isnt any food in it and he can usually get any treat out in a couple minutes.  we ordered some extra thick bully sticks which he goes crazy over and can chew on for hours.  we dont leave him along with them because he will try to swallow them whole once they are short.

I'm with Tony

but you really can't leave them alone with it.  I hold it for my dog while he chews so there is no way he is able to swallow a big piece.

Peanut Butter

Fill the Kong full of peanut butter and freeze it.  My girls really enjoy them.

Yes, she does have a big kong, the one you mentioned with the long treats that go inside. she loves the nylabones too but I have ondered if all the shreds that come off of those hurt her in the long run?!

exercise?

I am not sure of how lowering her activity will help seizures. Is she seizuring many times a day? If not, I would take her for regular walks and when you are not working, take her on outings so she can see people and other dogs. (in the car, perhaps to the pet store, a park, to someone`s home?)

When I take the mister to PetSmart to get his nails cut, and he walks all over the store greeting everyone, and comes home and sleeps the rest of the day.(well, o.k, he is almost 7)

As far as behaviour goes, the motto is  "a well exercised dog is a well behaved dog".

let us know if any of the ideas help you. It must be very difficult having a bully with seizures.

I guess in the back of my mind I thought she just needed to take it easy..no one else really told me to do that!! Now she is back to her daily walks. I have to be careful because it has been 90 where I live and about 5 minutes outside is about all she can take. Yes, the seizures were scary but now they seem to be under control. I think she had 2 before I found out exactly what they were and then after she had 2 over 2 days, she didn't have any after she started the medicine and hasn't had any since. She does still chew on everything, especially wood. She loves the window ledges! I guess some of the just goes with having a puppy! I just love your dogs picture!!! Thanks!

When my bully was a puppy and

When my bully was a puppy and loved antique furniture, I sliced a lemon and rubbed it on her favourite chewing spots and it really helped deture her from chewing furniture!  She now loves her nylabones and naturally shed deer antlers!
