Breathing
Submitted by Paisley09 on July 24, 2010 - 2:19amHello, I have a 9 month old bully. She woke up from a nap and did this really weird thing she has never done. She was snorting/gaging really loud it lasted for like over a minute. I was super scared is there anything I can do to prevent this? What could it have been?

It's called a reverse sneeze. The theory is that the dog gets something stuck on that little fleshy thing that hangs down in the back of the throat (the uvula) and sucks air to try to clear it off. With Q, I rub his nose rope or gently blow in his nostrils to get him to stop. If that doesn't work, I gently pinch his nostrils closed so he will swallow. That usually stops it. :)
