blood at rectum
Submitted by Snowsarge on June 27, 2010 - 6:02amSarge has had some blood at the opening of his rectum. it is not dripping, but his fur is tinged with blood and when I pat it with the wipe, there is a little blood spot on the wipe.
He has been spinning - although his anal glands were expressed 3 weeks ago and he had a rectal exam and his tail pocket is clean.
He is on Hills Science w/d diet (from i/d) diet due to a bout of pancreatitus, we think may have been from grief as it happened 3 days after we lost our 12 year old Lab 3 months ago.
We are worried about him, he is such a sweetheart. Thank you.
If I remember correctly...
W/D can harden the stools, maybe he just has a fissure or small tear from pooping? Keep an eye on it, if he starts having more than a few drops, I would have it checked out. Sometimes colitis can cause rectal bleed or HGE (hemmoragic gastro enteritis which our guys gets once in a while). Hope he gets better soon.

Thank you for your help, I am going to see the doctor this morning. We are a little worried. Hoping it is the w/d food.

Vet visit
Sarge went to the vet to have his dry eyes checked and he did another rectal exam. The bleeding is from a abrasion from spinning and not from the inside. So so relieved. We were imaging the worst.
