Blood in poop
Submitted by kimrisa on June 6, 2010 - 8:53amThis morning Tuffy pooped in his crate overnight (which isn't normal). When I took him out he pooped (soft but no blood) but then he went to poop again and it was a little bit of blood and when I wiped his butt there was some blood on the baby wipe. Otherwise he's fine--hate a whole bowl of kibble and is active and playing. Is this something to keep; an eye on or do I need to call the vet asap? Unfortunately it's Sunday so we'd have to deal with an Emergency Vet clinic that we aren't familiar with....

Did you see any blood today? Sometimes this happens. If the blood is bright red, there may be a problem – possibly minor – near the end of the intestine. But dried blood is a big problem. If there's no blood today and he's eating and drinking and pooping, then you are probably OK. If there's still evidence of blood, call the vet.

And he's been eating and pooping much better. I put him on some DiaBac to firm things up. So for now he's good!
