When it happened to our dog, it was not physically noticeable, but she was very unsettled, panting and pacing. She started to bloat, so we raced her to the vet, but by then it was too late.

now I know what bloat looks like.. and its more visible on their behavior then their bellies. If your dog has bloat, you will know because it will look like they are trying to throw up, but can't.. they won't eat, and they can't get comfortable no matter what position they try to lie down or sit up in...they will be drooling and just looking miserable. it will look like a behavior and sickness that you have never seen before. It may happen after a meal as well. dogs need to the get to energency vet as soon as bloat is suspected to have a chance to survive.
I made the big mistake of thinking that it was just a yucky tasting antibiotic that I had to give my dog for dinner.. or at least that is what the vet on the emergency hotline told me. we waited until morning to take him to the vet.. worst mistake of my life.. i made him suffer the whole night like that.. :(
i took kibby to the vet a couple of times for emergency because i am now bloat traumatized,.. I think i can tell the difference now though.
