I have a gorgeous 70lb male bully named Tank. He doesn't get too many walks lately because my husband and I are deployed in Korea, and I refuse to have him running outside in 90degree weather. However, we did take him for a short walk today, mainly in grassy areas, and I noticed later on this evening that the areas between his pads look red and raw. Obviously we need to shorten his walks, and make sure the grassy areas we take him in do not have hidden gravel, but I was wondering if anybody had any tips on soothing my poor boys paws? I also noticed a dry scaly patch on his front right 'elbow' today, anyone might know what this is?
Wouldn't know that he just got a brandnew $60 bed! My forever puppy Tank.
Bag balm
You could put that on the paws and on the elbow. Large dogs will often get callouses on their elbows from pressure (also on the back part of the hind legs below the hocks). You don't want the callouses to get dry and crack. Bag balm will keep them moist and soft.
Another product I found to be really effective is Tomlyn's Protecta Pad. It has wintergreen in it, is non-greasy (unlike the bag balm which has a petroleum base), and absorbs super fast.
