He started limping and non-weight bearing a few weeks ago on his rear left leg. Radiographs have told us some bad things. Both ACL's have partial tears, he has hip dysplasia, and degenerative joint disease. He also has muscle atrophy on his left rear leg. Not a candidate for surgery since his hips are so bad that the one "good" leg is the worst hip.
We have had an orthopedic consult and he's being followed by him now as well. We are medically treating him with NSAIDS and intense doses of Glucosamine, cage rest for the tears in hopes they repair themselves.
He is only 2.5 years old...so this is coming as a huge blow for us right now. So far he's responding well and we are hopeful for the future.
Thank goodness they are partial
there is a chance they can repair themselves. My boy tore one of his around the same age, and was ok after much crate rest for the one partially torn CCL. The key is NO JUMPING and hardly any activity for atleast a few months. Glucosamine helps immensely. Hope it works out for you guys.
Thanks!! We have good hopes!!
He's responding awesome on the glucosamine and Rimadyl we go back to the Ortho the first week of June hoping for good news!!
