Hi, we noticed Oliver was getting some hard bumps on all four legs a couple days ago. Only on the outside of the legs, not the inside where he does sometimes get rashes from grass etc. The bumps are only about the size of a dime or smaller and dont seem to bother him. Then yesterday noticed that he had this big lump under the mucosa of his lower lip. Brought him into the vet to see if they knew what it was. I was thinking it might be an abcess because he likes to chew on sticks and thought he might have broken skin and gotten infected. The vet wasnt sure either, thought it could be infection or he might have gotten stung by a bee in the mouth and the bumps were the allergic reaction. anyone have something similar happen to their dog? we aere giving benadryl and antibiotics to cover both cases. only 1 day of treatment so far but no real improvement. good thing is that Oliver isnt bothered at all by it. thanks for any help
Mojo's Bee sting
Mojo just got bit by a bee on his lip this weekend and his cheeks swelled up HUGE! We put him on benedryl and made him relax and we watched him like a hawk. His tongue didn't swell up and his breathing was ok, so we just watched him and the next day the swelling went down. I don't know wht it would do to their legs though, sorry.
willtank i would have some
liquid benadryl on hand should this happen again....my wilson has a hypolastic trechea and is very allergic to bees and spiders....he got bit once and had stopped breathing to the vets 20 mins away....i now have a epi pen should it happen again...you were very very lucky.....but knowing that the reaction is that bad i would keep some liquid benadryl around....
Thank You
We do have some liquid around. We try to have a fully stocked emergency kit (5 Bullies always need something!) but things happen. I hope this is a reminder to everyone to go check their kit!
We were worried about Mojo's trachea too, after a xray and a scope we found out he has a SHORT pallete that has now grown to normal and that he was raspy because he had Laryngitis! Trachea was wonderfull though thank god.
could the leg bumps
be a reaction to grass or pollen? It might be worth asking your vet about doing some allergy testing (if this happens again). The red bumps on the legs/belly area make me thing that is a contact related allergy.
I think most reactions to a bee sting are pretty immediate and obvious (swelling and whatnot). I hope whatever IS going on can be sorted out by the current round of treatments. Keep us posted!
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
update - the bumps on olivers
update - the bumps on olivers legs are almost gone and the lump in his mouth is definitely smaller. its not tender at all like i would expect if it was an abscess and i doubt an abscess would respond so quickly to oral antibiotics so my guess is that this really was a bee sting. we will finish a week of treatment but i bet/hope he should be all better in a couple days
