Anyone know anything about Mange and Staph

My 16 weeks has mange and a staph infection all over his face. He is taking Clavamox and using promeris every two weeks. Will this get rid of it? How long does it take? Does it come back? Is it contageous?    Thanks.

I can't tell you about staph,

but Kofi got the mange after she had her shots. It is not contagious and will go away. Sometimes it can be stubborn though. I would start with feeding him a really good food to boost his immune system.

If you have a bulldog vet in your area, that would be the one to go to. The home page has a list.

Also if you do a search, you will find that many have gone through this, and have posted their experiences.

I hate that your little guy has these problems so soon!

I fed Kofi Wellness, but there are many good foods out there.

I now feed her raw, and that is something you may want to look into.

Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about your Bully

My Tuffy had Staph and the antibiotics cleared it right up. I'm sure if you have a good vet who prescribed the right medication your bully will be fine in no time. I know it's hard to look at but it won't last forever! Tuffy's face looked horrible during the worst of it and now he's good as new.

Hang in there

I responded to

Your other post on the main board. I am told by my vet that mange can be somewhat slow and catching it early and keeping it under control can help. If it is demodectic mange I am told that it is not contagious since the mites normally live on all dogs - it is just that ones with the 'condition' have an overpopulation of them. Or so they tell me...

Is he scratching a lot or not so much? I have had my foster, who has it, for about 3 or 4 weeks and his skin is definitely improving. If there is significant hair loss the regrowth could be slow even when the condition is under control.

In other news, as the others have told you, a top-notch diet that helps support his immune system may help expedite recovery.

Staph is relatively common. The antibiotics will probably help and there are a few to try should the one you're on not work well enough. If there are sores just make sure that if they have broken that you keep his face or wherever the staph is (gently!) clean and dry. I used Cetaphil cleanser diluted on a warm washcloth on Matilda's face when it was irritated and then applied some Panalog cream and it helped.

I've heard of the promeris treatment

my bully had a very severe case (all over his body) and we used Ivermectin as a treatment.  He wasn't itchy at first but that came a few weeks later.  Most of his fur fell out.  It took a long long time for him to get a clean scrape but don't get frustrated he will get better.  May get worse before better but it will get better.  I gave Onslow benadryl for the itchiness.  I gave him medicated baths (shampoo from the vet special for his skin) twice a week.  I also started supplementing him with Astragalus, an immune system supplement as per my vets suggestion,  I still give it to him now at 4 years old.  I also switched him to a grain free food, due to loose stools but that also seemed to help his skin issues.  Some things to think about.  Good luck!
