Rex is combating an ear infection. The vet said she never saw such clean ears on dog with an ear infection :-/ Anyway, he shakes his head so hard after I clean and medicate his ears I am afraid he is going to get an other ear hematoma like he did last year. Last year he had to undergo surgery to patch his ear flap. I am so worried and am thinking i have to keep him from shaking his ears. HE HATES THE DREADED E-COLLAR!!!
wish i could humanly tape his flaps down to his forehead some how.....
He has allergies and had been doing so well on Wellness Duck and Rice, but then my old vet made me stop giving him 5mg of prednisone a day and he has been battling a fungus/batcterial infection for over a month. The new vet has him on meds and he is getting some relief. Going to start him on Taste of the Wild Salmon and potato today. I am thinking the rice is his issue after all the years of being OK with it. His blood work was OK with his liver.
Been reading up on raw and cooked homemade meals, which is probably going to be my next step if the TOTW doesnt work. I am just so scared to I wont be able to give him the nutrients he needs. Thanks everyone!!! Have a wonderful bully day :-D

Can't say how to stop shaking his head...
But he needs some probiotics in his diet to help with the yeasties. try 1 tablespoon of plain, fat free yogurt in each meal daily and see if that helps some. I should lessen the yeast somewhat. I give it daily for life...
Good luck. Sorry he is having such trouble:-(

TOTW salmon is a great food and...
grain free makes a huge difference. TOTW has just come out with a new grain free lamb that we're trying out on our guys. Newman has horrible tear stains (his breeder had him on Eukanuba) and they look better after just 2 days on this food.
not positive but i think
it is the beet pulp that gives them tear stains. rex hasnt had tear stains in years since we had him on the wellness or the natural balance. he did a lot better on the wellness as far as allergies, but still needed to be on pred. until last month when all heck broke lose and he started with the ears and feet again.

oooooftas
I wiped hydrocordozone (sp) in my dogs outer parts not in the canal and that helped 80%

it sounds like
when you cleaned his ears...you may have got some fluid down in the ear canal.....we call it swimmers ear...his only way is to shake his head.....put your thumb at the base of his ear and gently push up...put a cotton ball in the ear to take in the fluid,,,,,when ever you clean his ears always place your thumb at the base so excessive fluid does not get trapped in the canal....
yep, you are probably right
thanks for the suggestions...

You might want to look into EVO dog food
I know someone who's dog had terrible allergies was on pred. They went to Evo dog food and no more pred and no more ear infectiosn or yeast anywhere after about a month of switching over and totally on it. It has no grain in it.
Jo Ann
gonna look into evo
i never heard of it....TOTW has potato in it and i am hoping he can handle it...leaning towards home food, a lot cheaper than running to the vet for more meds and creams, not to mention the sad bully face.
