Any advice on how to deal with ear infections?

We know it's allergy related. We have brought our 6 year old boy to the vet at least half a dozen times in the last year, but no permanent solution.

We clean his ears with cotton balls with the recommended (by our vet) ear wash. And we put cotton balls in his ears during baths. But the itching and inflamation persist.

We have cleansed him with a boiled beef and rice diet, and are now trying a new grain-free salmon kibble. We are also giving him shots every other week to help with the allergies.

Does anyone have any experience or advice on dealing with constant ear innfections?

Thank you in advance!

ear infection are allegry related....

nothing is going to stop or clean up a ear infection other than a good diet....including treats....

to just keep cleaning you can use vetericyn...spray on a towel wipe around the outside.....dont let liquid get into the ear canal....

Ear Infections

I really like Zymox for the ears to clear upbaterial and yeast infections and you can get it over the counter.  Epi-Otic is an over the counter ear wash.  If you haven't tried these products you might want to give them a try.

What is the ear wash your vet is recommending and what is the vet prescribing for the constant infections?

Diet can have alot to do with it. Maybe a change in kibble.  Are you feeding grain free?

Norbert had 1 ear that he had chronic infections in when he got older.

I use a tea tree oil ear cleaner....

on my dogs because TTO has been known to combat stuborn ear infections/staph infections where medication cannot.  My vet also recommended to put a little Benadyn solution in the cleaner to really help clean up yeast!

Is he in the water alot?

Emma is in the lake all the time and develops ear infections. We have to put a drying agent in her ears after she is done playing and this helps stop the ear infections. I don't want to keep her out of the water when she loves it so much.

Otomax

Has your vet ever prescibed Otomax(or it's generic).  We live by it with 5 bullies.  Washing is great, and this antibiotic works quite well to keep ear infestations under control.  It's expensive in small quantities, but if it works, your vet may be able to sell you a "vet practice size" bottle that really helps on the cost.  It's also great for tail pocket issues, cuts, scrapes, etc.

BNT

ask your vet for "BNT"... its a paste that you put in the ear and leave it alone for 2 weeks... then you do it again... it is fabulous

Thank you all for the advice!
