Antibiotics success story

Thought I'd share the before and after photos of Tuffy before and after he took Cephalexin for his face acne/staph infection. THe first photo was taken on July 31 an the second on August 19. The vet has him on 500 mg 2X a day and we are keeping him on it for at least a few more weeks to try to kick whatever was in his system. The redness is almost all gone, no new outbreaks and the fur is starting to grow back on his chin!  Perviously we'd just put him on one dose and it would come right back. Hopefully this longer term regimen will do the trick...

looks great

cephalexin is very good with skin issues for the most part. in our case, we'd been on it for a variety of skin issues and it always worked. though we don't have acne, per se, now Matilda will still get the occasional small pimple or two if she sleeps on a wet toy that I don't notice. Of course, sleeping on a wet toy is relatively common in the house.

that said, in cases other than acne i'm always pestering the vet about treating the underlying cause permanently.

Daily regimen....

Hi Becky!

The vet has us clean Tuffy's chin with hydrogen peroxide every day (just put a little on a cotton ball and dab gently. I also use the  Hexadene medicated shampoo that you get from the vet on his chin and muzzle a couple of times a week or if he's had a booda bone. I also have taken away ALL plastic and rubber toys and bully sticks and only give him deer antler and hypallergetic rope toys to play with. I also heard that ester C is good for building up the immune system so I bought the Ester C liver chewables from Nutri-Vet. The straight ester c upset Tuffy's tummy and this kind is PH neutral and is designed not to upset a dog's stomach.

Honesly I think the best thing that's helped the chin hair start to grow back is the antibiotics. Maybe ask the vet to prescribe a low dose of Cephalexin for long term use until Cooper's chin hairs grow back. From all I've heard this antibiotic is perfectly safe for longterm use...

How about some pics (hint...hint?)
