Antbotics, Tetracycline

Hi these pictures are of Adolff today and I really think he has a staph1931 adolff_016.JPG1929 adolff_011.JPG1927 adolff_017.JPG1925 adolff_009.JPG  infection, I know that I am not a VET and lord knows that I should take him to the vet but to be honest I am so broke. Please your advice is DESPARATELY needed. Adolff has tiny spots all over his body that have no hair, it looks kinda like ring worm but its not. Under his chin he has hardly any hair at all...He is pink like a little piglet, it doesnt seem to bother him. I wash his face everyday and I make sure to dry it also...He has no acne ,though..LOL He smells pretty funky, its an odor that I cant describe, he never smelled like this before..anyway I cant find any (FISH FLEX) at my local pet store, but they do have another ANTIBOTIC, Its call  T. C. Tetracycline its for fish, its states on the box its a ANTI-BACTRERIAL FISH MEDICATION, under active ingredient: 500mg. Tetracycline Hydrochloride and it also saids not intended for human consumption. any sugestions Adolff weighs 55 lbs and he just turned a year old last month.

I'm no vet but...

... I am pretty sure different strains of staph are resistent to different medications.  So if you were going to try ceflex (fish flex) I think tetracycline is quite a different antibiotic.

What kind of soap are you washing him with?  Is it possible he could be having a reaction to the washings?

We use a shampoo our vet

We use a shampoo our vet recommended called Derma Soothe.

You need to have his condition verified to know what antibiotic

To use. You could actually make it worse using the wrong thing. Have you had him allergy tested or tried yourself to remove things from his environment to see if it helps? My girl is allergic to fleas. One flea can cause a whole lot of grief for her. I keep her up to date on flea meds and make certain I watch her carefully for any sign she might have one on her! Also, she is allergic to certain grains, so I have her on a limited ingredient food.

Good luck.

I agree with Amy

Vet  trip is necessary in this case.

I know your right, and no

I know your right, and no I've never had Adolff tested but I do purchase his flea meds each and every month from the SPCA, I do give him the once over after his potty/walk every time...he just loves it. He's my boy. Well you know I have been spoiling him alot lately with the bite of what I'm eating like the lst bite of my sandwich, or a little piece of fruit. Sometimes its so hard to resist that Handsome face

Thank you

Are you 100% POSITIVE he has a staph infection?

Are you certain it is not something else, like the early stages of mange, which can cause a distinct door?

I don't think you can accurately diagnose what it is without a microscopic view, and without an accurate diagnosis you can not safely treat it.

I would get him to the vet before it gets worse.

No I'm not positive about

No I'm not positive about what it is, but your all absolutely right. Monday morning we are going to the vet and I'll just pay the overdraft fees. It would be stupid of me to take any chances with my handsome boy. I should have became a bulldogger sooner, they are not like any dog that I have ever had before.

Thank you, and  thank you again ladies

I'll let you know how every goes after the vet

Cheryl posted the other day about a credit card

that is for medical/veterinary expenses. Ask your vet if they know about it, or have one they are familiar with.

I agree with you 100% on how unique bulldogs are! I had to wait til my 40th birthday to get one, and now I do NOT know how I ever lived 40 years without one!

Tetracycline

DO NOT use this antibiotic on a young dog! It will permantly stain their teeth a yellow. I wouldn't use it until a dog is at least 13 months old.
