SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder

I personally suffer from this, the winter SUCKS big time for me, but I never got any real relief from the lights - one thing that really made me feel better, was when I was getting ready for vacation to Key West one winter, and I did a Tanning bed - something about those lights, and the warmth made me feel GREAT.

Gizmo has Alopecia, on both flanks, and its getting more pronounced - bald spots the size of dinner plates -  our next vet trip, we will be having her thyroid checked - and also inquire about melintonin.

SAD lights

I use a light in the winter.  But my Dr. suggested to use a grow light bulb, the ones at Lowes in 150w are what I use.  Way cheaper. They also have 100w like a regular light bulb, as the 150 is bigger, not on the screw end, but the other side.  Also the heat is a factor, I've never used it for the dogs, but it makes for a nicer winter for me.  I'm retired so I can use it over my desk for a couple hours  a day or more.

Ideally the melatonin should be given starting in the fall when the days start to get shorter and the dogs get less sunlight because many believe this is an issue of lack of sunlight.

I have had good results with full spectrum lighting, but the dog needs to be in it full days during the winter when they can't be outside in the sun for a while daily--not just a few hours.

Good luck!
