Does anyone know any thing to relieve allergic reactions. My poor girl has so many allergies she is rubbing her self raw. She has now been referred to the Specialist but we have an appointment in 3 months. I need to help her in the meantime. I think we have food under control she is on raw llama. Now we are waiting for environmental results. Any help is so much appreciated!!!!
Our vet gave us ChlorPred pills in the past...
for bad allergies. It has a small amount of prednisone which helps itching. Not for long term use, but it helps for seasonal things. Our guy was allergic to bermuda grass germinating, about two months out of the year. You would have to get it from your vet though.
Your regular vet didn't suggest anything?
Mine prescribed Hydroxizine for Onslow when he was having issues. Its a mild medication, antihistamine.
She has been on so many pills
She has been on so many pills I have lost track, the antihistamines don't do anything for her. She was on prednisone but she reacted to it. I am starting to get frustrated because nothing we do seems to be working
OK I had the same problem
do research on it and talk to your vet first but I have Onslow on plain Zyrtec. Not D - that can kill them. The plain zyrtec over the counter. It has done wonders for my guy and keeping his seasonal allergies at bay. We started with one pill in the mornng and one pill at night (12 hours apart) per the vets advice. Hope she gets some relief. :( I try not to suggest that until I am sure that the dog has allergies and that it isn't something else. Too many people are quick to suggest benadryl and zyrtec when maybe the dog doesn't need it. Also ask about medicated baths. That will help her too.
Allergy Tests
are you getting allergy tests done? You should be able to have your regular vet do these. Run about $200. Find out what she is allergic too, them go from there. Have a friend who just started her dog on the allergy shots and within 2 weeks his raw face was cleared up.
She said she was doing allergy tests
in her main message..............
environmental results ... Are these what you
are referring to as allergy tests? She mentioned she was being referred to a specialist and has an appt in 3 months. I guess I didn't read specifically that she had allergy tests done.
Yes wouldn't environmental results
come from testing? Maybe I am screwed up! LOL
Yes I guess...but they can also test for meat sources
so I would hope that the testing included foods as well, especially since so many seem to have some kind of a food allergy as well.
Cleo was allergic to chicken and lamb and my sister was feeding her chicken.
My boy is allergic to chicken as well
but I didn't need the allergy test to figure it out. lol
Yeah I've done both the blood
Yeah I've done both the blood test for atopic a as well as I've seen a hollistic vet and done testing for foods. She is on raw llama right now.. The blood test came back invalid because the vet said that all her antibodies are close to her skin and trying to help give her some relief and the blood tests for antibodies. So now we have been referred to a specialist who can do the skin test. It works very similar to the human one only problem is I'm waiting 3 months to see her and I dont know what to do in the meantime. I have medicated shampoo eye drops and she is on a pill called Vanectyl-p. I just was wondering if anyone else had any ideas because she has been on so many meds in the last year because of all her issues that I would like to get her off the meds
Well here is my first thought
since you said she has been on soooo many meds. Then I think you should take her off of everything, meet with the specialist and start over from the very beginning. With minimal "ingredients" per say. It is the only way to try and eliminate what causes the major allergy issues.
Vanectyl-p -- Prednisone. Not good for long term use and it never fixes the problem. It's a mask and vets perscribe it for god knows why. Maybe because they don't know what else to do? Symptoms alwas come back after the drug is stopped. Worthless IMO. More on the active ingredients in this drug - Trimeprazine Tartrate, Prednisolone) is used primarily to treat itching/inflammation and coughing in dogs and is made from a combination phenothiazine antihistamine and corticosteroid.
Chicken is a pretty common allergin I hear
and it is fed alot because it is cheap.
Has anyone ever tried a pill
Has anyone ever tried a pill called Atopica? Has anyone ever had any luck with it??
