Hi everybody! I'm new on here but wanted to share some great information regarding my Bulldogs allergies. Mason is solid white and is 4 years old. He has had skin problems, swelling between paws, swelling around his tail (RED inflamed very uncomfortable) large puss and blood filled sores under his mouth and chin, ear infections, biting, scabbing, hot spots, red eyes, you name it, MAson has had it!!! We have gone through all kinds of food. Holistic, Kangeroo, Duck, Salmon, Chicken, Vinison, you name it, he has tried it. Thousands and thousands of dollars have been spent on my sweet boy trying to find a resolution to his problems. He never slept through the night, woke us up constantly crying, iching, running from himself basically. It was heart breaking!!!! UNTIL our problems were solved!!!!
Mason now eats an organic diet that I prepare for him every week. It consist of the following; Rabbit, pumpkin, barley, green beans, apples and sometimes, oatmeal. I give him 2 cups a day of this mixture. He went from sleeping all day for months and months to waking up at 7am with us and being his old self!! His eyes are clear, ears are not red and infected anymore, skin iching has STOPPED, biting his paws and scratching has ceased!! It's amazing!!! I swear, my husband and I are in shock at the difference in the quality of Mason's life now. His Dr did give him a few different antibotics when we left her clinic. He is also having probiotics sprinkled on his food once a day as well. I never give him table scraps, I never allow him to play with toys that are not approved, and his kibble days are over!! This diet suits him. If you are having any problems with your Bully like I have had, let me know. Believe me, I've been through this long enough to answer a few questions. These are the best dogs ever and we love them so much. We have to keep them healthy!!

So glad you found a solution!
Did the vet give you the diet recipe?
YES!! I went to the grocery
YES!! I went to the grocery store today to get more pumpkin and the guy said they have been reordering it a lot lately because people are buying it for their dogs. :) Mason has his spark back! This rabbit is from his Dr and it's canned. No additives, nothing. It's just for now to clense out his system. In Dec we will start introducing other proteins (one by one each week) and see if we get a reaction. That way we can eliminiate the cause, but I'm thinking it was the kibble. Either way, he's a gourmet dog now!!

Do you have a receipe I could use? Thanks
Yes please post
:)
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
Receipe I feed Mason
Rabbit (in a can) Brand is Royal Canin, HYPOALLERGENIC
Can of Pumpkin )plain, no spice)
Green beans (I cook up a pound or so a week)
Oatmeal
SLiced appples or pears
Sprinkle probiotics over food once a day. 1 capsule given by vet.
I mix his food on SUnday for the week. I mix 3 cans of rabbit, 3 cans of green beans (chopped up) 3 cans of oatmeal and so on. Equal parts everything. I freeze what he will not eat in 3 days. It's handy to just pull from freezer night before.
I feed Mason 2-3 cups a day, mid day. Thats it!! No table scraps, nada. His allergies are soo bad, this is the first diet he has ever been on where he is leading a normal, healthy life. I'm thrilled!!!!
FYI: Make sure the green
FYI: Make sure the green beans are FRESH!!! Not canned!!! I only use the can for measuring!!
Great but.....
Where is the fat?
Rabbits have almost no fat and I don't know about dogs, But I believe I've read humans can starve on a diet of rabbit for that reason.
Steve
Mean people still suck
rabbit
This is a temporary diet to clense masons system
new protiens will be introduced in a couple weeks.
Mason's diet, revised.
Re: Recipe for a home cooked diet for hypoallergenic dietary trial
We are trying a home cooked diet - no more of anything that has been a part of the standard diet to date (no cooked meats, potato, soy/tofu, rice, corn, pasta or wheat).
ANY FLAVORED PET SUPPLEMENT (LIKE GLUCOSAMINE OR HEARTWORM PREVENTIVE) HAS TO BE SUBSTITUTED WITH A NON-FLAVORED PRODUCT.
The RATIO of food should be 1:1:1: So if you want to prepare less or more food keep the ratio the same
1 cup cooked beans (navy, white, MUNG ARE THE BEST - HIGH PROTEIN AND EASY TO COOK) - smash these before mixing with the other ingredients (they are hard to digest!)
1 cup cooked barley, LENTILS, millet (if not in the current diet)
Use the canned rabbit for the MEAT source
1 cup cooked vegetables (BUTTERNUT squash, green beans, spinach, etc -NO starchy vegetables like corn and nothing that is in the current diet)
A dash of salt and a tablespoon of fresh onion for flavor
2 tsp of olive oil
Feed 2 cans PLUS 3-4 cups of the mixture a day divided into two meals. The guideline is that your pet should neither gain or loose weight with this diet. Be sure to switch to this diet over a few days so as to avoid soft stool or vomiting.
