ACNE

Having difficulty with Bentley's acne.  It's back again.....last time the Dr. charged $350.00 to shave his chin and pop all these "pustules", put him on antibiotics.  Any suggestions are much appreciated and these are the things I've already done -

- Kept ss food bowls clean, use antibacterial wash on chin after meals, try to keep area as dry as possible, keep bedding and toys clean, use hydrogen poroxide and panalog ointment on any bumps that Adminse.

I just don't want him to be in pain.  I've just started washing the area which I read to do every day with a microbial shampoo and I'm hoping that will help????

How old is your dog? Buford started having acne problems

around a year old-  however he grew out of it.  At three he has no problems.  It may not be food related but just another one of their stages.

your vet shaved the skin and popped them?

I would think this opens the area up to infection, more than there would have been. This is puppy/teenage acne and will resolve with maturing. You are doing everything right.

He's going to be 4 years in

He's going to be 4 years in July.  I'm at a complete loss on what to do now....the vet's answer is always bring him in.  How many payment plans can you be on with the vet?  Ha ha.

Have you tried stridex on it?

Short of what you are already doing, that is the only suggesion, and I would think the panalog would work just as well.

Stridex

Thank you!  I wondered if that would be okay. I read somewhere to use the alcohol free and then I read somewhere else not to use human products.  I so wanted to try Proactive - I thought if Jessica Simpson could use it.....?  I will try Stridex then.  THANK YOU!

If you are not already

try to wipe his face after he eats, drinks or chews on his toys.  I have a little mirror hanging on the wall over onslows food dish with 2 little hooks - I keep a "onslows handtowel" there for easy face wiping ;)

get a bottle of witch hazel and wipe his chin twice a day

it will dry it out, cheaper then stridex pads.

i would not go back to the vet, that is crazy

Nutrogena

I have used "Nutrogena Clear Pore" (blue liquid in a clear bottle) on Thorment and then put some Neosporin on after it dries.  This is what my vet said to do.  Well he said to just use some facial astrigent then put some Neosporin on afterwards.  The Nutrogena stuff is what I use and it did work great for Tohrment when he had a little puppy acne. Clear it right up.  I hope the best for you and your little man!
