Hello Bulldog Friends...
My Wife and I Have a 10month old Bulldog named Gramps
He has had his share of medical problems in his first year. He had Cherry Eye Surgery and got neutered. Shortly after that he got pneumonia that he was unable to shake with normal antibiotics. We took him to a bulldog specialist and they recommended surgery for his elongated pallet and a doggie nosejob.
They said that his pneumonia would be a chronic thing unless he had the surgery done because of the amount of mucus that kept building up in his lungs.
He has been recovering from everything and is a insanely happy dog and the surgeries and constant visits to the vet havent seemed effect him negatively.
One thing that my wife and I have noticed is that he seems to be slightly sluggish since the surgery.
I know that Bulldogs are generally dogs that just chill out most of the time but it seems a little extreme. For example he wont climb stairs anymore and when he is playing outside or inside he seems a little bit sluggish. He never had trouble climbing the stairs before. He doesnt seem like his is in pain. He doesnt favor his legs or anything like that and doesnt show discomfort really. My question is, should I be alarmed about this sudden change in energy. He is in a 65-70 degree house all day so it cant be a heat i dont think. Could it be the super strong Antibiotics that he is on? He is currently on 500mg of chloramphenicol. He has to take 1.5 pills 3 times a day.
I just wanted to know if anyone else hear has had experience with these symptoms.
We did bring him to the vet and at the time, everything checked out and he was given a clear bill of health.
As im typing this he is sleeping next to me Snoring so loud i cant hear the news.
The below picture is Gramps in his Tux for a local bridalShow in Saratoga Springs NY. The Tux was fitted and donated by the local dog store SloppyKisses.
Any help of pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Great name for your boy:-)
I imagine that after all the surgery and now the heavy meds he is on, that is completley causing his issues. Give him time, wait until he is off the meds for a couple days, and see how he acts then. It has been a lot of stress on his young body, and he needs a lot of recovery time. If he starts going off his food, or his gums change color towhite or his mouth is very dry, then you need to contact your vet. Those are more serious indicators of a medical issue.

Thanks for the quick
Thanks for the quick response. i figure it must be his surgeries, meds and change of weather but I wanted to ask other bulldog owners for there opinion.
Below is a picture of Gramps after I told him that you responded to his health question.
As you can see he was quite happy }c)
Agree with Amy
The meds can take a toll on them and just generally wear them down. Gramps is gorgeous and I hope to see and hear more about him. Hope he is 100% very soon!
antibotics
take a little out of us.....i would be using yougurt 1 tablespoon twice a day in his food to replace the good bacteria that is being destroyed by the antiboics.....i would also get him on 500mg of vit c once a day.....i would freeze up some pedilyte and put a couple of ice cubes in his water once a day...i also love real honey (not the squeeze bottle) as a health bulider...a teaspoon a day most will lick it off the spoon.....these will help rebuild his body after so much surgery....even some accupucture would help.....with both wilson (pneumonia) and charlie several eye surgeris i did accupuncture ......i hope this helps a bit.....
Excellent information Judy.
I never remember to mention yogurt. I use it every day for my girls in their food. Can't seem to bring it to mind when I am on the board though. Also, vit c...good advice all the way around Judy. And pure honey. I use honey for injuries on my horses! For smaller but dangerous wounds, I pack the wound with pure honey, then wrap it up well. The honey will draw bad bacteria out and heals from the inside of the wound to the outside, making sure no infection is left in a prematurely closed injury:-)

people have forgotten the benefits of....
honey...it was used in the cival war to hydrate the soldiers..and as you use it for wounds...i am working with a bee keeper...as i love it and want to learn how to keep a couple of hives....its kind of exciting....
but honey has alot of benefits....
If I wasn't allergic to the little buggers, I might like them
Better! But I love honey:-) I use it sometimes...mostly for wound care though. I really should eat it more often, it is so good for you.

Judy where do you get your honey?

I live in the middle of nowhere
I'd have to drive over an hour to find a store. Might as well just order it! Now that I know what to look for though I can look for better prices.
