10 Month old Pup with Bad Cough

Hi everyone, I am a new member and am asking for some advice.  My 10 month old pup contracted kennel cough and although the antibiotics seemed to clear up most of the kennel cough symptoms he has never really got rid of this chesty cough.  He has been in and out of the vets ever since, antibiotics does seem to help, but doesnt clear it up totally.  He coughs to the point of gagging after\during eating and drinking which often leads him to throwing up he will also cough throughout the evening\ when sleeping.  He is energetic, playful, has a good appetite , but just cant seem to shake the "cough".  A recent Xray at the vets showed that he has fluid in his lungs, and his narrow windpipe is making it hard for him to clear this mucus\fluid. We live in a small city in New Zealand and our Vet doesnt have much prior experience with Bulldogs.  Any suggestions on what we can do to relieve his symptoms?

Narrow Trach

Are you hot and dry in New Zealand?  Have you tried using a nebulizer?

How is his palette?

need to be very careful.....

wilson when he was 6 months got aspirated pneumonia and it took four months to get rid of it...and he has a hypolastic trechea.... dont supressed the cough...try  to get him under some steam to bring up the mucos....once a month do a chest. x ray this is important..you dont want to think its better when its really not..we had to switch to three different antibotic before we got rid of it...and it is life threating....

give some honey and water....get on a vit c 500mg a day....DO NOT let him over exercise....a good walk some play no rough housing....bulldogs can go very fast with pneumonia.....

Thankyou guys

Thankyou very much for the advice, I will call the vet tommorrow and enquire about possibly trying a different type of anti biotics. I will also give the other suggestions a try too.

So would the gagging after eating or drinking be connected with his cough or are we looking at two different problems? Our vet has expressed his reluctance to investigate this further whilst Turkish has the cough.

Once again thanks for the advice
