Family Says Police Shot their Dogs for No Valid Reason
"My family and I were inside and we just heard gun shots and I ran outside,"
said dog owner David Moreno.
A family says a San Antonio police officer shot their dogs for no reason.
Now, they want answers.
Officers showed up to the house to respond to a different call, but minutes
later, two Pit Bulls were shot in the neck.
Behind the fence is where two Pit Bulls used to live, that is, until Sunday
afternoon.
"My family and I were inside and we just heard gun shots and I ran outside,"
said dog owner David Moreno.
Those shots were fired at David Moreno's dogs.
Beware of dog signs are posted on the fence, but David says, for some
reason, the officer came to the back of the house anyway.
"They shot my dogs for no good reason in the neck," said David. "He didn't
have to shoot them, he could have fired a warning shot, pepper spray,
no .. he shot them."
The officer says he was worried the dogs were about to attack. Neighbors
who spilled out into the street say there's no way.
"So you're saying these dogs are friendly and not dangerous?" asked News 4
WOAI's Aubrey Mika.
"Yes, I've gone so many times in there," said neighbor Lucinda Rodriguez.
"That's my sister's house. They're licking me all over and just
want to play."
David doesn't believe the officer even opened the gate. He claims he shot
the dogs from over the fence.
"These guys killed my pitbull," said David. "What's going to happen? I want
to know if there is going to be legal action, or if this guy is going to be
reprimanded or what."
Both of David's dogs were killed.
The officer who shot the dogs says he tapped on the fence, didn't see any
dogs, and thought it would be okay to go inside the yard. That's when he
says the dogs charged him.

A story of law enforcement vs. dog
One of my brothers is in law enforcement, he comes across PitBulls/Rotties etc probably on a daily basis on his adventures. On one such occasion, my brother jumped a back yard fence before realizing that there was a very large male Rotti sleeping at the far end of the yard. The Rotti woke up, noticed my brother and ran straight at him. Believe me when I tell you, my brother stays very calm under pressure. He needed to decide whether or not to shoot, when to shoot.
The Rotti dropped a tennis ball on my brothers foot. When his job was done, my brother and the dog played fetch.
