Curious as to a particular or popular brand that would show off a bulldog versus a ****-zu!
I notice there are different size gauges or diameters and lengths. For the pros out there what do you use?
Cheers!

I guess I should read these cause i do use a shih tzu lead(resco), linked through a thin snake linked choke!! lol

Kangaroo
Sean:
I use a Kangaroo lead with a metal/silver, "medium" thickness colar. I'd like to use a studded colar, like that picture of Ch Pugilist a couple posts back - but I think that would be a little too much handler "expression" for the ring.
All kidding aside, I think the the slightest, simple lead looks best - one that doesn't get in the way of showing off your dog.
The best place to shop is at all breed shows. For instance, I am going to the International Dog Show in Chicago this weekend, just to look at the bullies and shop in the vendor booths. Don't waste your time in pet stores - try to find a larger all breed show in your area. Some others might have some internet site you can order from, but there's nothing that can replace looking at this stuff in person.
Re: What size and brand leash/lead does everyone use?
dont be afraid to spell out the word.. it's SHIH-TZU.. nothing offensive..lol
Depends on the dog. I use jewel link chokes on some... nylon chokes on others and nylon martingales on the young 'uns.

Coming from the horse show world myself Deb, I can totally relat
Dixie has several "bling" collars we use for showing in obedience & rally, they reminded me of the silver on my old horse show tack (a boxer breeder in OK makes them) www.sunchaseboxers.com

I also had a custom, limited slip, leather collar and matching show lead made with turquoise stones and turquoise kangaroo leather woven into it - it's awesome!! I ordered it when we showed at our first Nationals in 2006! www.leather-creations.com - sorry pics of this collar are on my home computer....
I try to keep them as simple as possible
you don't want the collar and lead to be the main facus of the judges attention. Fancy stuff just distracts the judge from the dog

I use a gold coloured link chain with a medium
width black nylon lead (not sure what brand they are)

Involved in the horse show world myself... I can relate...
I like the silver showie stuff! Running barrels we have lots of "Bling" usually! So my dogs have some heavily decorated collars they were to the vets and pet store!

things I take into consideration
the first being what type provides my dog to show off movement and still allows me to correct the dog when needed. So i like the German Slinger flat link choke. Its chrome and measures 24 inches. She was 58 pounds then. I used a 5 foot 1/4in leather latigo lead on it.
The second thing I take into consideration is what looks good on the dog and is not overly distracting the judges view of my dog. Something that compliments the dog. I use white nylon or parachute slip leads on the puppy who is fawn adn white brindle because they blend in and she is not completely used to a heavier choke yet.
I like gold on dark red brindles and red and white dog.
Measure the neck circumferance to ensure the right fit. I think its JBPETS or Petedge who had really cheap leads and chokes but order early because they are always on backorder or out of stock. At 2-5 bucks they go FAST!

You'll get lots of
different answers here.
I like the Kangaroo leads and chokes and have a couple of plain leather show leads and silver and gold chokes in different sizes and leads in different lengths. I feel it depends on the dog, the dogs color and if it's a bitch or a dog.
I have been using a nylon collar and lead for Ester (puppy) because she hasn't had a big girl choke on before. I like the smaller flat links on a choke. You want to get them used it the show choke and lead before you go to a show. Sometimes those links in a chain choke pull the hairs and they want to scratch at it.
My next purchase will be a pretty braided leash with some silver ferrells. Coming from the horse show background that will be right up my alley. I've spent thousands on silver equipment.
I like some of the braided and beaded leashes also. I have a couple of different lengths but because I'm short I can easily use a 36". Someone who is tall would probably want a longer leash.
