What in the world causes a tail pocket? It's sort of a strange thing if you think about it. I just can't imagine a lab with a tail and then a huge cavern going in a couple inches underneath. It's like a hole in your dog, isn't it?
Why do (some) bulldogs have tail pockets and is this a 'fault'? The standard doesn't mention tail pockets, but I don't see them having anything but a bad stigma with them (ewwey, stinky, dirty, etc.)

My Hefner has a deep tail pocket...
His tail is high set and very tight..under the tail above his anus is a pocket that goes in at about and inch..inch and a half. It is super hard to keep clean because his tail is so tight...it holds the moisture in there.
Picture..
LOL....would be kinda hard!...if you lift up your dogs tail...way underneath it will be a "pocket"....I clean my bullies each time they get a bath. Old dead hairs accumulate up in there so it feels really good when you clean it out.
Some are almost one inch deep.
Do you have a picture?
I've never heard this term either and I can't picture what you all describing. I need a visual I guess.

Tail Pocket...
The tail sits in the "tail pocket"...which is a thick fold of skin surrounding the base of the tail.
As Sonny mentioned, I would think any dog with a short tail would have a tail pocket, some being deeper than others.
Re: What other breeds have tail pockets?
I have seen this lovely tail pocket in other breeds from grooming them. Boston's and even some Golden's and German Shepherds. I think it has to do with how low and tight the tail is? Would be my guess.. I have also seen it in dogs that have been over weight most of there lives. They seem to get what I call a roll a butt. Where the weight now hangs over the upper legs and causes the tail to hang low. That gets really gross..lol I see that in poodles and cockers. Even my IG's will get a little stuff above the butt, another low set tail. I think it might have a little to do with that they can't reach it like most dogs? Even though they do get creative. I know I have had a mark on my shoe or two with them still on my feet! Thank you very much..lol

Re: What other breeds have tail pockets?
I have only just heard this term for the first time this week on here.
What is a tail pocket?
And to answer the question, maybe other naturally bob-tailed breeds have similar problems?
I don't know, does anyone here have Corgis or Old English?
