vitamin c & calcium to help raise pasterns

I am also going to post this on the medical forum, but
since this is a show dog, I figured I would post it here
also. What is the dosage of vitamin c, calcium and
glucosomine to help raise the pasterns on a dog who is
alittle down in them?? Its been 3 yrs since my last
show dog had to have the vitamins and I can't remember
how much I gave him.
Also refresh memory on how much tylan powder to use for
tearstains(1/8 tsp comes to mind). Can I put it in a capsule
and pill him or does it have to be added to the water/food?
THANKS!!
Laura

Tylan

My vet said 1/4tsp once a day for 30 days. My pup is 6 mos and about 33lbs.

Where to buy Tylan

I bought my Tylan Powder here...

I did not search around for the best pricing so you might be able to find a better deal someplace else.

question? you said this is a male dog, should vit c not be

given to females with this same issue?

Vicky:
How much tetracycline do you use(or is it same as Tylan powder)? Do you put it in the water or mix it in the food? There is tractor supply stores here and they sell the tetracycline in liquid(for shots) but I haven't seen it in powder. I will have to ask them next time I am in there if they have it in a powder form. Thanks!!

My male doesn't have the stones, but from research I have read, females can pass the stones normally whereas males usually cannot. The vitamin c in a stone forming dog converts to oxalates and causes higher acidity in the urine making a ideal enviroment for CA OX stone formation. So as a general rule, I watch the vitamin c, calcium and vitamin d I feed my male dogs.

Vitamin C in male dogs

This is a male dog and I really would prefer not to give him high doses of Vit C due to it association with CA OX stone formation. I've been told to use Ester C and I'm not sure if this would be the same as human grade vitamin c. I remember with Tequila tho he took vitamin c as a pup for the pasterns. It was recommended by a professional handler.

Re: vitamin c & calcium to help raise pasterns

I give 1000mg of Vitamin C for the puppies. Works great to bring feet around and pasterns up. Start out with 600mg then up to 1000mg after a few days.
For the Tylan, about 1/8tsp every day until stains are gone and then I do 1/8tsp once or twice per week.
