Veterans class?

Greetings!

We're considering entering one of our boys in the Veterans class at the Fort Worth Bulldog Specialty, March 15-16, SIMPLY because he always LOVED being in the ring when he was a babe and still LOVES being the center of attention.

Now, did he always act like an angel in the ring for his handler?

Uhhhh.... not necessarily. He's the type who would speed race around the ring to try to get to the front of the line. (That's why, after attempting to work with him years ago, I delicately handed the lead to my hubby and said, "This is your project.")

Now, is he show worthy?

Not necessarily... He's got his issues. HA! But we wouldn't be entering to win anything; we just want him to have a "hoorah" and let him enjoy the applause. Honestly, is that weird reasoning??

So... what are some of the main reasons Bulldoggers enter the Veterans class?

Thanks for your guidance.

Deirdre

Veterans are fun!

Lucky isn't a showdog, not in character, not in looks, but I made a bet years ago that I would show him in Veterans and see if he could show by then! We were in obedience, but somehow we didn't do the training for stand.

Lucky was 8 years old when I showed him in Veterans on a (dutch) club event. It was fun, he was the only one, one-eyed, not moving right, but everybody loved him!

I have some fond memories of showing Charly (my old boy) in veterans: we got third place (I think), but the trophee looked like a dumbbell, and Charly decided to pick it up and carry it out of the ring. Needless to say nobody remembered who was first in that class and I've got a lovely picture of Charly holding his trophee! At that same show a friend of my was showing her Black-and-white bitch in the veterans. The dog, Olga was sick at that moment and refused to stand, up to the moment that she was rewarded first prize (she was the only lady in the class). She showed like a pro, standing like a statue, with shining black coat! She had her moment too!

So please, if your boy likes to show, show him! Have a photographer ready to picture his moment.

Have fun!
