I just received this from one of the lobbyists working on our behalf.

"AB1634 has been re-referred to the Local Government Committee only.
Thus, no B&P hearing and we need to get
new letters sent to Local Government ASAP. Probably will be a special
hearing." - Mark Hennelly

I just called the office of the Committee on Business, Professions and
Economics and learned that indeed AB1634 had been "discharged" from
their committee and that the hearing on July 9 has been cancelled. The
aide said that the reason was that the ammendments to the bill published
yesterday "took it out of their jurisdiction".

So, we must now RE-ADDRESS all those letters we either sent, or were in
the process of sending, to the Senate Committee on Local Government.
(When I groaned in disbelief to the aid, she just laughed and said,
"Welcome to government.".


The Consultant assigned to AB1634 is Peter Detwiler and here is what we
need to do: (and PLEASE, PLEASE try not to be discouraged by this. They
are trying to wear us down, so let's show them it WILL NOT WORK)

1. Re-address all your letters (individuals AND clubs)to:

2. Send letter to each member of the Local Government Committee (there
are only five - 3 Dems/2 Reps).
Senators Cox and Harmon are firmly opposed to the bill, so their offices
suggested we concentrate our efforts on the three Democratic members of
the Committee, Kehoe, Machado and McLeod
