PETA, the whole organization, is just an example of overpopulation of HUMANS. All those people have way too much time on thier hands, and now they even have power. Time and Power, is scary.

PETA doesn't care that you are a good breeder, that your dog has a good life, that you have purebreds and not mutts. They will never be impressed that you rescue dogs of your chosen breed. You are not dealing with people who even think like you. THEY DON'T WANT DOGS OR CATS TO EXIST. PERIOD. They don't want you to eat meat, dairy, wear anythng even remotely connected to animals, you name it. It is an easy lure, show animals in labs being abused. Show the cruelty of a slaughterhouse, again, you name it. Who isn't affected by these images? Anyone with a heart is. Here lies the danger to us. WE are being labeled as people who promote cruelty to animals. Do not mistake their new message campaign. And many people in the general public will buy into it. Some PETA members will tell you they don't necessarily even like dogs or cats. This is a philosophy. And they have convinced many important people that their cause is very worthwhile. We all should be EXTREMELY concerned about this. e
Thousands of years ago, ancestor's of our dogs learned that it was easier to survive by working with humans. It was nature's way and on instinct that they learned to benefit from each other. What the Peta lady is saying is unnatural and goes against the universe.
On a side note. It is proven that pets make children and people emphathetic to other animals. I would be shocked to find a peta member that DID NOT grow up as a child with pets of any kind. If the peta lady got her wish, than we would no longer have any pets in 15 years or so.

If they are right then only dogs who are bred by people who breed to a standard, any standard, of a breed, (as opposed to a crossbred who obviously must have mated wandering the street) are the only dogs who get diseases like hip dysplasia and any other disease that might be passed down (but then again might not be genetic). And only dogs from breeders, breeders themselves, even reponsible breeders (who only sell on spay neuter contracts), and anyone who buys a dog b/c they like some characteristics of a breed (as they have a better idea of what the temperament, size, coat, etc)...these are the people responsible for the overcrowded shelters full of mixed breed dogs. Of course, there is no mention of individual breed rescue organizations that take at least dogs of their breed out of these overcrowded shelters and prevent them from being killed. So...let's see...if you were or are of, eg, of German descent, and had family that lived during WWII and had children during that time period or prior to WWII ...you would be responsible for all of the many people who were not German that were in overcrowded Internment camps and died in inhumane ways after their usefulness was used up. Now...I know that that last paragraph makes no sense...but it would seem that is similar logic that Peta uses...both of which are illogical anyway! I wonder if anyone who writes for Peta ever took a Logic course in school. EGADS! And there are so many people who buy their tenants...What is next?? B/C of overpopulation, you can only have one child??

This is such a ridiculous way of thinking. Overpopulation is not caused by responsible breeders. Geez!!! I for one would love to see responsible pet care in the school systems to stop the cycle of ignorance passed down from generation to generation. There would be less strays, less dog bites, less cruelty if we could just teach the children of society the proper way to own a pet.

or at least copy/paste the quotes. Thanks, Jennifer for posting this. So many people think PETA is simply protecting animals from abuse and lab research, which is why they support their cause.

PETA does not want anything bred. Period. It's not a matter of mutts vs. purebred. it's a matter of what they call the "No Birth Nation". And they do extend that to people too. Ingrid Newkirk, PETA's president and founder has compare having children to having purebred dogs and has stated she is against the idea of children altogether.
The real AR extremists hate the human race. And they dislike domesticated animals almost as much. They are an abomination to them. It is why PETA kills over 90% of the animals relinquished to their shelter, they really do feel that being dead is better than being "captive". Some quotes from PETA.
The cat, like the dog, must disappear We should cut the domestic cat free from our dominance by neutering, neutering, and more neutering, until our pathetic version of the cat ceases to exist. John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A Changing Ethic (Washington, DC: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), 1982, p. 15.
As John Bryant has written in his book Fettered Kingdoms, they [pets] are like slaves, even if well-kept slaves. PeTAs Statement on Companion Animals.
You dont have to own squirrels and starlings to get enjoyment from them One day, we would like an end to pet shops and the breeding of animals. [Dogs] would pursue their natural lives in the wild they would have full lives, not wasting at home for someone to come home in the evening and pet them and then sit there and watch TV, Ingrid Newkirk, national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), Chicago Daily Herald, March 1, 1990.
Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation. Ingrid Newkirk, national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), Just Like Us? Harpers, August 1988, p. 50.
Let us allow the dog to disappear from our brick and concrete junglesfrom our firesides, from the leather nooses and chains by which we enslave it. John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A Changing Ethic Washington, DC: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, (PeTA), 1982, p. 15.
I dont use the word pet. I think its speciesist language. I prefer companion animal. For one thing, we would no longer allow breeding. People could not create different breeds. There would be no pet shops. If people had companion animals in their homes, those animals would have to be refugees from the animal shelters and the streets. You would have a protective relationship with them just as you would with an orphaned child. But as the surplus of cats and dogs (artificially engineered by centuries of forced breeding) declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship enjoyment at a distance. Ingrid Newkirk, PETA vice-president, quoted in The Harpers Forum Book, Jack Hitt, ed., 1989, p.223.
In a perfect world, animals would be free to live their lives to the fullest: raising their young, enjoying their native environments, and following their natural instincts. However, domesticated dogs and cats cannot survive free in our concrete jungles, so we must take as good care of them as possible. People with the time, money, love, and patience to make a lifetime commitment to an animal can make an enormous difference by adopting from shelters or rescuing animals from a perilous life on the street. But it is also important to stop manufacturing pets, thereby perpetuating a class of animals forced to rely on humans to survive. PETA pamphlet, Companion Animals: Pets or Prisoners?
We at PETA very much love the animal companions who share our homes, but we believe that it would have been in the animals best interests if the institution of pet keepingi.e., breeding animals to be kept and regarded as petsnever existed. The international pastime of domesticating animals has created an overpopulation crisis; as a result, millions of unwanted animals are destroyed every year as surplus. This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. Their lives are restricted to human homes where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to. Animal Rights Uncompromised: PETA on Pets: published on PETAs webiste, January 8, 2007
The bottom line is that people dont have the right to manipulate or to breed dogs and cats If people want toys, they should buy inanimate objects. If they want companionship, they should seek it with their own kind, Ingrid Newkirk, founder, president and former national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), Animals, May/June 1993
Im not only uninterested in having children. I am opposed to having children. Having a purebred human baby is like having a purebred dog; it is nothing but vanity, human vanity. Ingrid Newkirk, PeTAs founder and president, New Yorker magazine, April 23, 2003

the writers view on things is absolutely crazy!! If everyone followed this advice, in a very short time, there would be no dogs!!
and saying "for every puppy or kitten who is deliberately produced by any breeder, a shelter animal dies"....then saying "if you don't find the perfect companion to match your lifestyle on your first visit, keep checking back" anyone believing the first line, is gonna feel guilty if they dont take the first dog they see at the pound...regardless if it matches their lifestyle or not.
These ppl need to leave the purebred breeders alone, yes some are "bad apples", but to cut down the whole tree of life??? This way of thinking is whats ruining the world, nothing needs to be pure anymore and extinction has become a fad!
