Following up with the health committee report in the newest Bulldogger. I have provided you the link to the OFA tracheal hypoplasia application form that has instructions for your veterinarian on how to do the x ray for submission.
The BCACF will be paying the $20.00 OFA application fee plus will be re- imbursing you $50.00 towards your vet fee. My vet has volunteered to do all my x rays at just $50.00 so my only expense will be gas and time. Please discuss this with your own veterinarian.
The re-imbursement will be limited to the first 100 bulldogs who participate.
Please consider submitting your dogs x ray for this all-important study.
Thanks again to the charitable fund members for helping me in getting this project off the ground.

Re: Bulldogger (magazine??)
To receive the Bulldogger (a quarterly publication) you must first join the BCA- the Bulldog Club of America. You can go to their website:
www.thebca.org for membership info or contact someone for your local bulldog club for membership info. You might be able to order back issues from the bca website.

I have printed off the form you provided as well but no bulldogger has arrived. Who do I contact to have a replacement sent. Deej
Bulldogger (magazine??)
Is there a bulldogger magazine? If so, how do I subscribe?
FOLLOW-UP..
I am sure the US will follow suit and it is our goal to have the BCA have a say in this, rather than the animal rights extremists and the "anti-bulldog vets" who want to eliminate our breed and others that are considered "extreme."
AND WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO TELL US EITHER!
Re: x-ray of trachea - question
In many European countires, the dogs have to pass some very strict health clearances. I am sure the US will follow suit and it is our goal to have the BCA have a say in this, rather than the animal rights extremists and the "anti-bulldog vets" who want to eliminate our breed and others that are considered "extreme."
I am not a vet. The radiologists at OFA came up with the requirements for the x-rays. This is a study. As with all studies, this will likely answer some questions as well as raise new ones. But we feel that with this one organization's input we can come up with a stadardized testing protocol that will satisfy both bulldoggers and vets as well.
I am hopeful that we can eventually pair up with other countires and compare notes.

x-ray of trachea - question
In the Netherlands we have a health-check for Bulldogs, that includes the x-ray of the trachea. Coupled with the weight of the dog, the seize of the trachea is measured. For this examination the dutch Bulldogvets and the breedclub made a protocol with among other things how to make the x-ray, ie how high the machine has to be above the dog (how higher the picture, how smaller the trachea).
On this form I only see a very short instruction about the x-ray. How does it work? Can all vets make this x-ray? Does it lead to a certain measure of the trachea? Are there rules?
par ex. Lucky is only just 25 kg, he has a trachea of 11 mm (seize 7) which the vet considers "enough", but I don't think it is enough. We had his throat done, because he had bronchitis before 12 months and he is a very excited and busy boy (still is, at 8 years).
Wouldn't it be grate, to be able to compare these results with other populations of Bulldogs? It can really improve the genepole. BTW the examination is around for about 10 years, it is mandatory for breeding via the club for about 2 years, but the results are showing! No more breathless Bulldogs (at least not on shows and used as breedingdogs). We are not there yet, but it is really helping!
