We have had a few people in our area that purchased the salmon oil for dogs at Costco. A few weeks after using it the coats went to crap, the dogs started itching and looking moth eaten. A few of us locally put it together and stopped using it and the coats got better. The other day we were at the vet after a c-section and talking with the vet during recovery and we started talking about the coats and if he had seen any problems with the salmon oil. He said YES, the salmon used is hatchery salmon had has more metals in it vs. wild, he had a lab run some tests and the levels were way high and he also contributed the bad coats to the oil.
So if you are having coat issues and using salmon oil that is not WILD you might stop and see if it makes a difference with your coats.

I use Emu Oil. It is so much better for them. Has Omega 3, 6, an
Salmon not my favorite oil...
Salmon does carry too many toxins based on the size of the fish and the level of water it travels in. Herring would be a better choice and I prefer refrigerated or capsule form so the oil does not go rancid.

Re: it's what costco has for dogs
The reason I was asking is because there are a lot of different types and quality fish oils out there. Actually, the term "pharmaceutical grade" itself can be debated because the health supplement industry is not heavily regulated. Just make sure to check the purity of the fish oil and how it's processed.
