I have only been in the show side of things for the last 5-6 yrs, but Cody always puts alittle space between himself and his dog. Cody has been showing since the age of dinosaurs(started as a child is my understanding) and is very much the showman with his dog. He wins very often, so I would say it works. Some dogs move better on a tighter lead, some looser and each dog is different. And while Cody might not look "in control", I can guarantee looks can be deceiving..... Laura

Looked to me like Rock was not too close to the handler(who is the owner also?) when walking around the ring, loose on the leash and really wide apart! The others were closer and in control. I don't know too much about those particulars because I am new to all of this, but could that be why? If I noticed that, then the judge should have really noticed that. Do they take that into account for the breed because they don't trot or glide, they strut? He did make a little jump right infront of the judge to show that he does have the leaping ability, which probably won the judge over and into second. I would be interested in some input from others with experience. Cheers!

My question has always been how in the ($)$)Y)@*$_@* can a bulldog compete with a dern standard poodle, miniature poodle, lhasa apso, bishon frishe-all those fluflu dogs-erg!!! I know the judges are supposed to judge each breed on its own individual standard-but with all that fluff and poof and cuteness-how do we stand a chance?? SIGH.... Congrats to Cody and Rock on an outstanding job-and Rock especially for displaying a little athleticism alot of people don't often see in bulldogs!! Laura
most bulldogs are shown on a loose lead
you dont want them strung up like the other breeds,
