question for those who use heat lamps

[linked image]

We have a 175 watt in there just clamped onto the whelping box so we can figure out how to regulate the temp before pups are due. But its only showing 84-86 degrees and its been on for 24 hours now.
We also put carpet squares under the box that were pulled out of a business my husband did some work on. Thought this may help keep the box off cold tile floors.

So should we go ahead and try the red 250 heat lamp bulb?
And what can be used to configure the light as an overhead instead of clamping it onto the box?

Thanks for any suggestions and advice..Mia loves it so far. She slept in there all last night and was loving the warmth as its getting down to the 48-50 degree temps at night here now. I will add more blankets when pups arrive but dont want her marking and peeing them all up right now, LOL!

i clamped my light onto one of those...

tall floor lamps, you know the pole lamps? and have it next to the whelping box. i use the reddish orange 250 bulb. i like having it on the lamp pole as you can swivel it closer or away as needed to get your heat where you need it.....

I use the same...

setup but, I have a dimmer switch to regulate the heat. If it gets warmer I lower the switch and vise versa. Inexpensive and works great!

You can get one of the wrought iron plant hangers that will hold

wall. If you use a chain and snap system you can raise and lower the bulb till it is the right temp over the box.

I have always used a 250 watt heat lamp and clamp it onto the grooming table pole. Works really well but get very hot so needs to be watched. Good Luck

or the heat light. PUt a heating pad in the corner too.

we found the 175 & 250 watt too hot

if using with a heat pad. So we use a standard 75 watt bulb in the heat lamp just to keep the air above the box warm. The 175 & 250 watt also concerned me as a fire hazard.
