Question about Nationals

I have only been showing for 2 yrs, I think I have all the regular show info down pat now but I am not so sure about the Nationals.

Do you have to be invited to the Nationals? Can non champions and champions be entered? What is the purpose of the show? Is it an AKC event? How do they seperate so many dogs and get them all judged in a timely fashion?

Thanks~Heather

THe like should be live!

REmember it is not just a week long party!

For some it is a week long party. For others it is a week long FAMILY REUNION, meetings, wonderful educational classes, INCREDIBLE Bulldogs that are in the top 50 will be there but, sometimes not all can make it.

But for you who are able to.........HAVE FUN!!!

I have 3 children and a litter of puppies. For me, I will like through y'all!!

Viva la 70's!!

Do you know who is in charge of . . . . .

Sponsor's? If so, Jim and I were in charge of reaching out to different Companies and I would like to give your crew my information and help them with Sponsorship for your Nationals!!

I am soo excited for y'all to be able to have this and that Jim and I can actually travel next year. Can you tell, I have not traveled for some time!! LOL!

Well....

I know....but only b/cause I have done the presentation for next years nationals:) But I ain't gonna tell happy.gif

Nationals

are just like a regular show or a specialty show. Bulldogs only. Classes are the same as you would see at an all-breed show.

Class dogs show in their respective classes. Champions compete against each other for Best of Breed as well as WD and WB. They also have Veteran classes that you don't normally see at an all-breed show.

Re: Is your National held at the same place every year

The nationals are moved from division to division each year, in a different place. Next years nationals information (location, time and judges) will be announced at this years banquet. The time also varies also, it usually is held anywhere from Sept-November.

It is THE BEST!!!

It is so educational....you get to see dogs who you have only seen pictures of in bulldogger or on bulldogsworld...you get to attend educational seminars for free....you get to meet all sorts of bulldog lovers from all over the US, Canada, Mexico and other countries...I can't bear the thought of missing it this year....I have flown w/o a dog to see it and attend all the conferences and sit back and chill with other bulldog fanatics....I have learned so much and know I have so much left to learn!!!! It is a terrific experience. It is wonderful to show a dog and it is wonderful to just attend and watch and study the dogs.
IF YOU CAN.....GO!!!!!

Non regular classes, example, brood bitch and stud dog or Brace gets judged after Best of Breed. Best Puppy gets judged after each Best of Breed too.
Veterans typically show after the classes are done and before Best of Breed.

sone answers..

"Do you have to be invited to the Nationals?"

No, it is open to any dog that would qualify for any AKC dog show.

"Can non champions and champions be entered?"

Just like you see "Yourhometown Kennel Club", or the "Bulldog Club of Wherever You are From", the BCA (Bulldog Club of America) gets to have a show too (AKC allows each club two point shows a year).. BCA chooses to have one and this show rotates through the different Divisions of the BCA each year. Each area then designates a host club and then the hosting Division gets a show too, so there are actually three different specialties over the course of "National Week" or "Nationals" or as some people prefer, "National"
Each show works just like any other, except typically there are three judges, one for dogs, one for bitches and one for non-regular and intersex classes. Some smaller Divisions go for two judges, not three.

"What is the purpose of the show? Is it an AKC event? How do they seperate so many dogs and get them all judged in a timely fashion?"

Purpose.. depends on who you ask, as far of "order of importance".. For some it is a week long convention. For others, it is a chance for more majors, for some, it is a week long party. For everyone, it is a celebration of our breed. Plus the annual councilors meeting and several committee meetings are held, along with educational seminars. There is the annual banquet honoring Hall of Fame inductees, award winning dogs from the National show, and they announce judges and location of the following years National.

There are two rings running simultaniously, dogs in one and bitches in another. National often runs over 3 days (sweeps, obedience one day, class dogs/bitches and Jr Showmanship the next day and the Best of Breed and non regular classes the last day.
The local host club gets the day after National and then the Division. Some times the local show and Division shows go two days, but very often it all gets wrapped up Saturday to give folks Sunday as a travel day. Every year is slightly different.

The show is always held in the hotel we stay in.
