Question

I just received this email from a person looking for a puppy... I thought her questions were thought provoking... just wondering how anyone one else would answer...
Thanks for your time....

I am looking to purchase a male puppy for around February. Do you have any available? I am looking for pet quality and if possible a brindle. Please see the following questions.
1. How many years have you been breeding?
2. Can I see mom and dad before I decide to buy?
3. What is your genetic health guarantee cover?
4. Do you offer a health guarantee?
5. Do you have a website?
6. Do you show your dogs and if so how often?
7. I have never owned a bulldog, can you answer my questions after I buy the puppy?
8. What is the price range of your puppies?
9. I currently live in a town house that has stairs, can my dog get up those steps?
10. I have owned other breeds of dogs though this puppy will be the only one in the house will it be okay as the only pet or should I consider getting a pair?
11. Do you offer a money back guarantee if I do not like my puppy?
12. When is the best time to contact you and how do you prefer to be contacted?

I know these seem like a lot of questions but I am looking for a lifetime companion, my dog will be with me 90% of the day every day. I do plan on enrolling my dog in basic obedience as I think it is an important part of having a good relationship with your pet. I do not plan on showing my dog at this time but I might purchase a show quality in a couple of years to try that as well.

Thank You,
Kim

I agree Lorraine I would take a puppy back too

i would rather have the puppy back and no he will be loved than leave him with someone who doesn't really want him or appreciate him.

I believe I have gotten that same email...

but had no pups and not expecting any so I didn't answer them. Initially, it feels a bit pushy but then it is good they are being careful. I don't ship puppies so #11 doesn't apply as far as I am concerned. However, that being said, if someone 'didn't like the puppy', I believe I would take him back right away and tell them that I will reimburse them what I get paid for the puppy upon resale. I wouldn't want someone to keep a puppy of mine and not be over the top in love with him/her. I have a clause in my contract that states I will take bully back at any time in hers/his life for whatever reason but I state nothing there about reimbursement. If someone gave me back a 10 yo bully that is different than a 14 week old puppy as far as money...an older bully would either live here or be rehomed in a suitable home w/ no reimbursement.
Hmmmmm

If only I was as good a person as my dogs seem to think I am!

I've seen that list of questions

before in a pamphlet or something. That being said, I think it is a good list of questions.

Most of the questions are from the BCA web site

If you go to the BCA web site and then to the link for Finding a breeder you will find most of the questions on page 12 and 13.

Thankfully at least the are researching the breed

hummm I think its ok

one thing that would come to my mind about this email would be (how did they get your name?) if they haven't been to your website?, If it was a referal they would of said who refered them. Besides that sounds like they want to make sure they are choosing a breeder who is commited to the bred and help them through there life of there dog. maybe question 11 was ment like if some unforseen thing came up could they return the dog?(alot of people have it in there contract the dog HAS to be returned to the breeder), or maybe they want to hear that you try to match up personalities of pups to owners needs..who knows??? I would answer the questions, and ask about #11. at least it didn't start like this..."do you have any puppies ready to go for x mas" lol... just sounds like she read an artical on questions to ask a breeder when considering a pup. I've been asked the stair question alot?

I would be very glad she is asking these questions

I know how hard it is when looking for a puppy and some breeders will not even give you enough courtesy to return your emails.

I think they are great questions

and shows the person has a real ineterest in getting a puppy that is right for them. I am sure you can answer them all with ease

All good questions but what do you think of #11?

Not like her puppy? What does that mean exactly?

I am happy to see someone put that much thought into the initial conversation regarding a pup. So many people make snap decisions regarding a purchase...the proverbial "how much is that doggy" is the first and only question that many ask (to which I always answer--I'm sorry I don't have a pup available right now). I would congratulate Kim and answer her questions plainly and simply.
