First off, thank you all for voicing your opinion freely but in a respectful manner. I appreciate both sides of the opinion and if we can all live with the notion of "we can agree to disagree"... Many longtime bulldoggers, breeders, show exhibitors and judges raised a good topic about show winners, champion as the validation or breedability and what a stud dog or brood bitch can produce.
Some said that a dog or bitch does not have to be shown or complete his/her championship to be a good producer. On the other hand, a champion or multiple title winner does not guarantee future show winning prospects from his gets. While this point of view is somewhat valid, I can not help but wondering, what is the purpose of showing? Isn't the original purpose of exhibiting one's dog or bitch is to have the breeding stock evaluated for its breeding quality?
We, the human beings, have screwed up the purpose of show casing our breeding stock by awarding the sub standards.... and the breed suffers. How sad... This is just my two cents
I agree Jay
there are some bad judges but there are still a lot of good ones and it is the same dogs over here taking out 1st and 2nd places the majority of the time, so if they are all coming to the same conclusion then they must have a fair idea.

Evaluation &/Or Comparison
George,
This is a subject that is constantly covered in many of the publications out there.
Wouldn't it be nice if a dog's actual quality were defined by how well it did at dog shows? The difficult part is to define the quality of a dog. It's difficult because the definition of quality is how a person perceives what the Standard is saying.
The ability of a dog to produce quality offspring also is therefore difficult to define based on the previous idea. Does the number of Champions produced define a quality producer? Does the number of Champions produced define a quality breeder?
Or should each individual dog stand on its own quality and merit to be labaled as a good example of the Breed?
Showing neither has anything to do with how well a dog conforms to the Standard, nor how well it can produce quality. However, showing is the avenue that we have right now to compare what we have produced. Showing is also the avenue in which we can confirm whether or not what we see in our dog is the same as what a seasoned and experienced person also sees...for the most part.
Yes, there are judges out there that lack the ability to find a quality Bulldog, BUT there are still some that, FOR THE MOST PART, can evaluate a quality Bulldog. There are breeder-judges that know, for the most part, what a quality Bulldog is and there are multi-breed judges that can see past the pet peeves of the breeder-judges.
