Pics from the 2009 Bulldog Club of America Nationals (Kansas City, MO)

This show was our first time attending Nationals, and it most certainly won't be our last. Congratulations to the Heart of America Bulldog Club and the 2009 National Show Committee for hosting such a fun and well-organized show. The opportunity to see so many bulldogs in person, from different parts of the country, is such a learning experience. If you have never attended a Nationals show, we encourage you to go, go, GO!!!

Congratulations to all the winners this week!

We took pics at the Bulldog Club of America Specialty (Tue and Wed). We tried to get as many bulldogs as we could. The pics are divided into class dogs, class bitches, intersex, etc.

We still have quite a few class dogs/bitches pics to go through, so we'll probably add more in a few days. We were able to identify the intersex dogs/bitches, but it's nearly impossible to do so with the classes. If you recognize a dog, feel free to add its name and/or class to the comments section of each picture. If you would like any pics, please email me: ryan1926@comcast.net

Here is our take on Nationals, as told in pictures...

Great Pictures of My White Girls

Wow!! I got a placement with the white girl pictured below on the ramp with my husband Fred - her name is Lakewinds Creme De La Creme and you got two great shots of her half sister sideways with Fred - Lakewinds Barbie Girl. We didn't get any pictures of them but they were a hit there regardless of the fact that only one placed. So I would like to buy the pictures, please contact me - don't know what Dela's picture was but Barbie's is DSC_7120 & 7121. Can't wait to see some more pictures they were great.

Fantastic photo's...Thanks for sharing.

some ID's

In the 4th photo - on the left is Kay Gray with CH Graybull's Ketel One (Duncan)and on the right is Harry Meierarand with CH Solidrock Outlaw Murphy.
In the 5th photo - on the left is Jennifer Joseph with CH Adamant Warlock (Angus) who was 1st in Veterans class, and on the right is Mary Aiken with CH Silverspoons Nothing Personal (Cooper).
6th photo - Lucy's name is spelled 'Loquacious' there was an error in the catalog.
9th photo - on left is Saundra Martinez with CH Royal Lee's Flying Eagle II.
11th photo - I think is Cooper
Even with a catalog sitting ringside it was difficult to keep track of the dogs as some armband numbers were hand written and not visible from a distance.

Awesome! Who makes those cool stuff bulldogs?

I NEED to know.

Camera Stuff

I agree with your comment about the Nikon feeling more substantial than comparable Canons. Nikons just feel a little more solid and I like the menu, interface, and ergonomics of body. Of course, that's just my opinion. As far as lenses, I believe that Sigma makes a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for your camera that has received good reviews. It might be worth it to rent the lens and try it out. I use www.lensrentals.com to test out lenses I am interested in buying.

Thank you..

I made the mistake in getting the Pentax and I have found it to be limited in lens choices. I love the pics it takes but the lenses are way too expensive. I used to have a film 35mm Nikon and it was the best camera I ever owned.
Nikon is definitely the way to go. It feels more substantial than the Canon's to me.
Thanks for the info.

Camera Stuff

Thanks for the compliments! Although you can't go wrong with either a Canon or Nikon, I shoot with a Nikon D300. My favorite lens, and the one that I shoot with at dog shows, is the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. This lens allows me to shoot in low-light conditions without a flash. My recommendation would be to hold the different cameras to see which one feels the most comfortable in your hand. Once you decide on the body that you want, buy just the body so that you can spend the extra $$$ on the appropriate lens. Most of the kit lenses that come with the cameras aren't "fast" enough to shoot in low-light conditions without a flash. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.

Stuffed Bulldogs

Hi Jannette,

The stuffed bulldogs were made by the St. Paul/Minneapolis Bulldog Club and we were selling them at the Nationals for $10 or $15. If you are interested let me know and I can put you in touch with our club secretary who currently has them in her possession (she just picked them up from me about 1/2 hour ago). Several club members, including myself, hand made these bulldogs. Lots of work but they sure turned out cute ! Appreciate your compliments !
