am writing this to share part of history that Flo explained to me she said if you look at your scale of points when you see the 5 & 6 point features they were important to the bulldogs survival in the bull baiting ring.
Properties and Symmetry 5 points This gave the proper balance or he could not have stayed on the bull
The nose 6 points The nose had to be opened or he would of suffocated.
The Jaw 5 points This is how he clung to life.
The Shoulders 5 points This enabled him to crawl to attack the bull.
The Back 5 points The top line gave him strength when attacking the bull.
When you judge looks at bulldog he should always look as though he could do his job of bullbaiting
I hope you copy this to share with the dog world. Thank you Kim

Re: Part of History
thanks for bringing up so many points with your posts. I think its great sometimes to step back and look at the bigger picture, and our goals. It puts things in perspective. I found this pic sometime ago, and enjoyed it. Not that I want my dog in this action EVER, It just really helped me in thinking what bull baiting in-tailed, and the importance of each characteristic of the breed. I also consider how temperment was changed, to make bulldogs wonderful house pets, and how they can respect livestock now but wonder if 5 dogs were thrown in a ring with a bull if there once natural instint would come out. I read pet fourms and sometimes here of fixation problems still to this day.

bullbaiting is something I could never picture my dogs doing, this picture shocked me none the less.
