can people please tell me how many points you need and how you get them to achieve championship status in America and the UK.
Here in NZ we don't have a point system, you have to get 8 challenge certificates. At each championship show 1 dog and 1 bitch is awarded a challenge certificate each.

A title here in Brazil that is related to BIS wins is the "Grand National Winner".

There is no GNW Bulldog right now in the ring (the few that got it, maybe 1 or 2, are retired).
The dog needs 4 BIS in 4 different states.
My dog, Cowboy won already 4 BIS but in 3 different states (2 BIS in the state of Rio de Janeiro). All wins from last year. Hopefully we will get it soon...

Ch. Longlands Blue Print (Ben)
In all honesty he looks very similar to my boy in the face. The breeder/owner is the owner of the sire of my boy too.

I've Seen A Picture
I believe I have a picture of the dog you're speaking of, Louise. A friend of mine gave him one of his Bests in Show.

Thank you its near impossible to get to Gr Ch status
with a Bulldog there has only ever been 1 grand champion Bulldog in NZ. You need 50 challenges and 3 best in shows (all breeds). The 50 challenges would be easy enough to get if you travelled to every show but the 3 best in shows are very difficult as very rarely does a bulldog get group and when they do an in show win is amazing!

There is a particularly great Bulldog being shown here at the moment though and he has over 50 challenges and 2 best in shows so only 1 to go, it will be interesting to see if he gets it.
In Brazil...
Louise,
Almost the same here in Brazil as in NZ (probably because we are under FCI rules). No point system to become a Champ, you have to get 7 challenge certificates for dogs and 5 CCs for bitches (with different judges). At each championship show 1 dog and 1 bitch is awarded a Challenge Certificate each (but only if the Judge gives an "excellent" to the dog and the bitch, meaning that they can refuse to give a CC to one of them or both).
It looks easy and in fact it is not very difficult to finish a dog here, but we also have more titles, so becoming a Champ is just the middle of the journey. To become a Grand Champion (top class in Brazil), for example, you need 70 points (dog) and 50 (bitch).
So all the dogs in the Champion Class are awarded with points from 1 to 5. Usually the class winner gets 4 or 5.

Amendment
In the US (AKC), a class dog/bitch can win Championship points should that animal earn a Group First and should a breed in that Group have a major entry. For example, a Bulldog could earn a major, even if the competition is not a major in Bulldogs, should that animal win the Group and there's a major entry in American Eskimo Dogs. An animal can only win 3, 4 or 5 points depending on how large the major entry is in a particular breed in this fashion.
This does not occur very frequently, but it can happen. Whether or not someone should attempt to win in this way is another long subject.

AKC and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club)
Louise,
I don't exactly know how it works in the UK, but I will read up on it soon. As for the American Kennel Club, a dog needs to earn 15 total Championship points with at least 2 Major wins of either 3, 4 or 5 points AND under at least 3 different judges. There is what's called a Point Schedule (not to be confused with the Point Scale that is located at the end of the Bulldog Standard) and in that Point Schedule, it lays out 13 different Divisions (not to be confused with the Bulldog Club of America Divisions) or regions of the country where the AKC has defined how many dogs in competition it takes to earn 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 points.
Different regions have differing point schedules. For example, in AKC Division 8 (Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) it takes 2 males and 2 females to be in competition to earn 1 point. For a 3-Point Major, it takes 18 males and 17 bitches and so on. You can read up on all this on their website at www.akc.org.
In Canada, where the shows are under Canadian Kennel Club regulations, it takes a total of 10 points with at least one 2 point win and under at least 3 different judges. In Canada, their equivalent to the point schedule applies to the entire country. I'm sure it is detailed on their website (www.ckc.ca). A dog may earn Championship points by earning Group placements in Canada. That cannot be done in the US.
I hope that's helpful.

15 points from 3 judges 2 of the judges
have to have given a major or atleast 3 points, Majors depend on where you are located on how many dogs you must beat. It could be 18-25
