A new agility venue Dixie & I competed in this weekend...

Dixie and I competed in our first Teacup Dog Agility trial this weekend - TDAA is for any dog (purebred & mixed breed) who is 17" and under at the shoulders. The judge & her husband (who is also a TDAA judge) brought all TDAA regulation size equipment to use this weekend. My first impression when I walked into my club's building Saturday morning was "oh my, it's a Barbie agility course"! The equipment was so darling and quite small compared to the full size AKC regulation equipment we are used to training with.

Highlights of the TDAA regulation equipment:

Dixie literally moved the tunnels upon entry, exit and while she was in them because of her big bulldog bulk

The shoot entrance was very small and Dixie had to learn to duck her head going into it - first try I reved her up to run and she bonked her head going in....oops! The shoot itself was dark purple and a heavy canvas material so it made for a very dark tunnel - most dogs were spooked the first day and would not go into it, but not the bulldog! Guttsy girl

dog walk was VERY narrow and her paws were pretty much on the edges and those broad bulldog shoulders didn't help either! LOL

the tire jump, I'm told was a bicycle tire wrapped with purple tape (she did ok with that)

the teeter was metal and very heavy, made a huge crashing noise even on our double matted floor!

Although we didn't get any qualifying scores this weekend, Dixie & I had a lot of personal accomplishments - she did her first teeter and also finally did the Aframe in a show ring - that's been a sore subject for her lately! I totally had a fun weekend with new challenges and accomplishments alike and as everyone knows, the bulldog is always a crowd pleaser, no matter what they do, the cheers were always so loud when we finished our runs! LOL

Wow.. great times for Jen and Dixie

I've always wanted to try TDAA - one of our rally instructors is also a TDAA judge and does TDAA classes.  I might just have to reconsider this for Alvin.. you're right.  The course equipment is "darling".

Glad you guys had a blast.

Sounds

like you guys had a great time. Stinks on the NQ, but if it was fun...then that is what matters!

Thanks Rod - it really was!

don't you have one in your crew that could do that? I bet the kids would have a blast running a dog in agility! There were quite a few youngs ones running their dogs this weekend, was so stinking cute!!

Oh, Nelia - you should so go for it with Alvin!!

he'd be awesome and I know he'd have a blast!! TDAA was such a relaxed and layed back venue, pretty much anything goes and the judge was so understanding and patient...she even held the shoot open for dogs to come through that were scared of it...it was great and everyone cheered each other on, no matter how they did - was just a lot of fun!

It was a very much needed break from the Utility ring

so I just wanted to go out and have fun with her - if she Q'd fine, if not - no biggie....we both needed the stress relief! LOL So while no Q's, we did accomplish a lot on personal goals!

Thanks so much Carrie

we only worked on the teeter for a very short time, maybe one or two classes, so I was super thrilled she even attempted it this weekend - that was huge!! The A frame has always been a problem for her - she goes up it like a roller coaster (tick, tick, tick) and them comes flying down - it always makes me nervous too - all the weight on those shoulders, so I guess I never pushed the issue if she refused, but this weekend's Aframe was much lower and I knew she could do it - she was awesome & I was so proud of her!!

Neat!

That would be so much fun.
