O.K. I wanted to take my female to a show next month but the more I work with her the worse she gets. When I put her on a table she never has four feet on the table at the same time!! I work her about 10 mins at a time multiple times a day. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also I would like everyones oppinion on her.
Thanks
Thanks
Thanks for the help everyone.
Try using some bait too
floor stacking
She does the exact same thing on the floor. She is just so playful that she just can't hold still, she is 9 months, hopefully some age will slow her down a little.
Use a stable surface...
Looks like she could be nervous due to the slippery surface. Put down a rubber bath mat and try that.
After you have made it stable for her do nothing but flood with treats so she associates the table as a good thing. Then place feet and work to increase time. How is she for stacking on the floor?
stacking
10 minutes is too long. Start with just a minute or two and praise her when she stays still. A trick I learned with Piper was to set her front legs and just lift her rear end and set it down and she would leave it there but if I moved her back legs individually she would just keep moving them. I also gently rub the inside of her back leg when she is stacked while I praise her calmly. Paula does the same in the ring and it works great.
I think the biggest thing to remember is not to lose your cool. The more frustrated you become the more she will fidget. It needs to be fun and it's a learning process. I also find they will be better if you practice when they are tired.
Good luck at the show !!

I agree
great advice!! if she doesn't stack i also wouldn't rush it or expect to much right away. 40 seconds on a table hold her head, and calmly just pat her don't worry were her legs are. When i didn't have a table I'd soak a towel or bath matt, so there legs wont slide. I trained an adult who flattened there belly to the ground in about 5 months.. no sooner! baby steps, to much and they will hate it, and think the couch is a far better place. In the end you want a dog that loves to go to shows, to much pressure and they won't enjoy it. good luck, she doesn't look to bad up there,,, so your ahead of the game.
