My first post

I am new to bdw and the show scene, but I would like to ask your opnions of Maybell is she possible show material? She is 9 months old and 54 lbs. Your honest opnions would be appreciated I would like to get her to the AKC Canine Experience (Education Match) on feb 23 and see how she does. I also need an education in showing and have been reading this forum for months and really appreciate how nice and helpfull everyone is.

Calcium,

I use Jamieson Calcium 650 mg., 1 tab twice a day... this helps with the pastern, the part where the foot greets the leg. You want her to have high knuckles and tight toes... she appears to have nice feet in the third picture.

You do not want to raise pups on any 'chicken wire type' grating when they are young as it will 'splay' their toes, amongst other things!

I am not sure that tums will cut it for dosage.

You really want to make it an enjoyable experience for her to go in the ring... very important.

Try to not 'over-handle' her when you are out there... most of these guys are naturals

Have fun with her! she is lovely.

Oh, the Kelp is a good addition to their diet anyway.

Does she drag her front toes?

that is desirable trait for the bullies.

You should have good luck with her and read Kim's saying a couple of posts above this... 'For the Love of the Breed'... it is a lovely saying... one to live by when you are showing...

Keep us posted and we'll look for some show photos!

thanks for the pointers

I already give her tums do you think they are good for the calcium? It is hard to get good pictures. Her movement is good I think, she has a rolling gate but sometimes she drags her toes...is that bad?

aj... you may want to try

some Kelp to bring the pigment into her left eye. I capsule per day.

Also, Calcim to build her bones (just a precautionary thing) 1 tablet two times per day.

It is very difficult to judge her when I can't see her movement.. it is such an important thing.

Handle her feet and trim her nails weekly, so they are short for the ring.

Handle her ears so she is used to being 'handled' in a gentle manner... also, her mouth... the judge will be doing all these things and you want her to feel at ease.

Try to maintain your calm when showing because they pick up if you are nervous.

The third picture of her looks great. It is very difficult to get the feel for the dog in a picture. what is her jaw like? did you buy her as a show 'prospect'? she looks to have good, big nostrils and a very nice wrinkle over her nose. put a bit of vaseline on her nose to moisturize it...they usually hate that.
she has a nice 'ear set' and the desirable, 'rose' ears, looks to have a nice topline in pic 3.
HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THE STANDARD on the BCA website.
the very best of luck with your pretty girl... we all started somewhere...talk to your breeder too... a wealth of information, usually.
