about judges

Some judges have a natural ability to tell the good dogs from the average dogs.

Once they have their good ones, the standard then helps them pick the best of the best.
This is why an expert specialist appeals to me more than an expert all-rounder, although an excellent all-rounder is much better to me than a so-so breeder-judge anyday.

If I am bringing an excellent dog to excellent competition, I want to make sure that my hard work is regarded by at the very least, an expert evaluation, devoid of the persoanl nonsense that can go on, or the lack of expertise that is rampant in both breeder judges and multi breed judges.

A multi breed judge is only as good as the mentor he or she had, or the seminar he or she attended.
Not many of them have access to these picking apart sessions that are going on in here.
Imagine how some of you, as bulldog lovers, have been confused. Imagine how some Afghan breeder who wants to add more brees to his list, feels when faced with a ring of bulldogs..

I know that some seminars leave the attendee nothing but more confused. I have been to a few of other breeds that were great and quite a few that were awful.

It is easy to tell a judge to go read a standard, but many breeders are guilty of not reading it themselves, how can they get mad at the judges who don't?

Just sayin...

funny you should mention that,,,,

I had a couple of fellows approach me during a show, and ask if I knew where they could get a copy of the standard. I made it a point to get them copies, that day. Come to find out that they were provisional and were actually seeking the correct information about the breed.

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

These are great discussions, I agree.---

It's nice to get down to the "nuts and bolts" of our breed. Now, if only we could take all the best parts of each of our bulldogs and get them all combined into one package! wink.gif

Agreed

Standard Post

I LOVE to see all the replies . I agree and disagree on some things . The world would not turn if we all thought the same way . I have been in the breed since 1986 and still learn something about the breed everyday.
I read this and just have to shake my head ,only because of what I see some judges put up for winners . They are mostly all rounders and I swear they haven't a clue . Sometimes I would like to send them a copy of the standard ........lol

Keep up the GREAT post , it makes it a more interesting forum.
