Kidney Disease

Have any of you had a bulldog that ended up with Kidney disease and was able to get over it? If so, what did your Vet have you do that was successful?

Much Appreciated

Kim,

I really appreciate your suggestions. My case seems to be very similar to yours. I can only hope for something as successful as your situation was.

She does not want to eat anything including the science diet k-d or anything else so we gave gerber baby food last night and this morning. Once its on her tongue she has to eat it.

Today we will start the holistic stuff you mentioned along with the fluids.

Again thank you for posting yourt situation and what worked for you.

This dog has meant the world to me. We've shared some wonderful travels and great times together.

Harold because of toxins they really do not want to eat I gave Nutrical 2 inches in morning baby food in jars chicken or turkey always used Gerbers. At night Nutrical 2inches.

The fluids are the ticket it will increase her appitite.

If she is really not perking up after fluids then you must increase maybe to twice a day. The kibble has to be very low protein I tried KD but slammer would not ear so ended with RD and she ate it mixed wih ID can. When this first happens it takes your breathe away. When you take back for blood test fluids have to be stoped day before so you will have true reading. Hope this helps you Kim

PS When this happened I was prepared to let go of her as at the beginning this looked very bad as I had Ultrasound of Kidneys and the Specialty Vet told me she wss born with it. I prayed God would guide me as she was my child. Keep the faith. Kim

In our prayers...

If He got ya to it, He will get ya through it. Give all your ladies a hug and let them know what they mean to you. Hang in there.

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

prayers your way

I know what you are going through Harrold and Teresa. Keep up the optimism!

Pedialyte

I forgot the vet had me put pedialyte (clear) in her water I tried giving it straight but she would not drink it. Just did that at very beginning when she was so sick. Also to make sure she is hydrated put your finger on gums if they are sticky more fluids are needed. It really helped me when I was doing fluids. Kim

Thank you

We will definitely try the vitamins and medication. We are currently giving her fluids daily at home. Teresa is an RN so administering it is not an issue for us. The Vet is amazed at how much she still wags her tail especially based on her values. I'm devastated as this is one of my best friends. We've had some of the best times together and traveled many miles. She is almost 5 years old now. The problem is that she doesn't want to eat and that worries me the most as we try and work through this.

When I talk about it I break out in tears. Bulldoggers are a caring bunch and we appreciate your prayers.

Thank you very much!

Getting this diagnosis is devastating. Any option would be worth looking into.
Thanks again for taking the time to write that.

Pet Tinic

My vet told me the nutrical for dogs and cats will give the dog all the good vitamins till her appetite gets better.
When you go in for another blood test and it shows improvement then he said Pet Pet Tinic was to be given twice a day it is a daily liquid vitamin mineral.
This improved energy levels. The pet Tinic replaced the nutrical. I gave this every day for life. I tried a cheaper brand but did not work. At first got from the vet but I got some threw next day pet 866-6377020 . Kim

My story

My dog slammer I was told was in kidney failure there was nothing I could do but let her die. I could not do this so a friend of mine had alot of knowledge in holistic medicine she told me to use MSM 1000mg ( It contains Sulfer some people as well as dogs can be alergic but in my dogs case she was able to take it MSM it takes all toxins out of kidneys. I had to learn to do fluids 3times a day as she was very bad, Fish oil 1,000 units vitamin E 400 JPX from Natues Sunshine as this acts as a also cleanses Kidneys Company name is Natures Sunshine (1800-2238225 The Vitamins I was to get was from Vitamin World as they were purest.

You must give the pills once a day along with fluids (Lactated Ringers 1000mg) everyday.I did for 1 month then went back to see where kindney count was. Was better As it improved vet had me go down to fluids 2x a day. The vet I went to did not belive in holistic medicine but could tell from blood test she was improving. This happened when she was 5 1/2 no it was not a Bulldog she was my Border Terrier, Time went on then fluids once a day then went everyother day till finally once a week for life the vet thought her to be a miracle as he said be it a dog or person when you go into kidney failure thats it. Well I just lost her almost made it to 14 . The vitamins were always given in morning!

Most people would not be able to do this every day much dedication was it worth it I would do it over in a heart beat. Giving the fluids was the hardest as I was so scared but vet taught me . The Vet told me how much fluids to administer. If any one has to go threw this its better I talk to you that is why I ask to email to me but Elizabeth ask if I would post forgive my spelling Kim

please

don't be afraid to share here what works. This is a devastating issue.

Kidney Disease

At this point it's not believed to poison related.

Re: Kidney Disease

Was a determination made as to the cause? ie; poison injestion or something congenital?
