A celebrated breeder, judge and writer Enno Meyer wrote of all domestic animals, the bulldog probably represents the greatest departure from natures original plan for a canine. I found this in a book Bulldogs : An Owners Companion. Do you all believe that Enno was right? Really haven't the bulldogs we love today been shaped and molded into what we want them to be, really a freak of nature, with the AI's and c-sections they couldn't survive without our intervention. It seems to me that there really isn't another breed that has changed its form so much from its beginning. We always see pictures of bulldogs of the past that resemble pit bulls when today they have a completely different appearance. The bulldog standard was approved by AKC July 20, 1976 and still remains the same today even though it appears to me the breed is constantly changing. I leave you with this, is it at out hands that our beloved breed is being molded into something that fits our personal preferences? Shouldn't we have a responsibility as Bulldog lovers to preserve what little bit of history is left in our breed and sacrifice our need to change everything to fit our idealistic view of the perfect bulldog.
