Huntington Beach needs action NOW

If you can, please go on Monday. The ARs are coming in from other parts of SoCal too so we need people to show up.

And whether you can go Mon or not, please call fax e-mail the council

please cross post and forward appropriately. And please write and fax HB City Council. This is a warm up for the return of AB 1634 that H$U$ is alrady promoting as "sensible reform"

Please take a moment to write, fax or email the Huntington Beach City Council at http://www.ci.huntington-beach.ca.us/government/elected_officials/city_council

Fiona and John echo the same sentiments as I.

The Huntington Beach ordinance reads that Orange
county animal control contracted for animal services
in HB has"canvasser' s" whose job has been to go door
to door to check on animal licenses. The ordinance
background reads:

"OCACS (Orange County Animal Center Services) has two
different approaches to identify and educate dog and
cat owners about county and city ordinances related to
pet ownership. OCACS uses canvassers to go door to
door in contract cities and county areas to educate
citizens on licensing, pet related ordinances, and
other Animal Care services. The canvasser can also
collect fees for licenses and could be used to educate
the public and identify dog and cat owners whose pets
may be required to be spay or neutered."

The proposal goes on to suggest that 7 new canvassers
be hired to cover all of HB within a year.

Anyway you read this, it means government agents who
have no medical background or licenses will conduct a
medical related exam on animals to detect sterilization. Big Brother is definitely alive and well in HB.

I will attend the HB City Council meeting next Monday,
Nov. 5th to oppose this proposed ordinance. The POWER
HB group will hold a pre-council meeting rally outside
of City Hall. Anyone living in Southern California
must come out and show their opposition. The rally i
believe will be at 5pm, the meeting at 6pm.
wwwMancuso and her groups will be there as well.
This is a prelim to the return of AB 1634 in
Sacramento. I spoke with a breeder the other day who
was adamant that AB 1634 is dead. HSUS' and PeTA's
new campaigns to pass AB 1634 and paint breeders as
the bad guys should be a wake up call to all of us
that this battle isn't over.

If you truly believe we are in this together, then
show your support to our fellow dog and cat advocates
in HB. Flood that city council with letters, faxes
and emails. And drive down or up on Monday afternoon.
