I am new to the show forum. I asked yesterday about handling classes but forgot to say we live in Georgia. If anyone knows who I could contact that would be great. I have contacted our local kennel club. They were not sure either.

Kelly: First question-where do you live in GA? Awful big state to be driving around looking for handling classes. In N GA, Kennesaw kennel classes offers handling classes 2x a yr. In Woodstock Ga there is a lady who actually has a training facility and does obedience and conformation. If you need her name let me know and I will get the name and #. My ex training class meets at Lost Mtn in Marietta/Dallas once a week(it is outdoors so weather permitting). Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. We live in the northern part of the state-an hour north of Atlanta and an hour south of Chattanooga Tn. Good luck in finding classes. L

You will probably have to drive. We went to handling classes the first 2 yrs we showed. We went towards the end mostly just for socialization and keep the dogs trained. Our classes were 50 miles each way for a 1 hr class(once a week), so we spent more time on the road then practicing, but I loved it and so did the dogs. I really miss it since I now have new dogs we are showing(the facility closed in 2006). But my husband built a ramp and we work on the ramp and grooming table couple times a week. We live at Petland, Petco,Petsmart and the park for the socialization. Looks like you have plenty of good help down around Columbus so you'll be fine. Latch on to Johnny & Bree Babb or Cathy Miller-nice people who will offer you plenty of help when they can. Laura

1. local vets 2. trainers 3. local breeder/exhibitors (found in the BCA directory) 4. all else fails, go to the nearest show, find some Bulldoggers and ask for tips to try at home. Imho, good handling starts with proper obedience. Start an obedience class with your dog. Just don't teach sit when heeling, teach stand-stay. Good luck, hope this helps!
