Local Humane http://localhumane.org/news/ is a grass roots effort by small, local shelters to get the word out.

Every year, every day, people donate to HSUS and ASPCA thinking the money will somehow go to help local pets. I see HSUS stickers on cars here while the local HS is trying desperately to stay afloat. And it is caring for two of the dogs from the same bust that rescued Fay!

In ASPCA's case, some of the money will go to animals in their NYC shelter, but much will go to maintaining their massive mail and TV campaigns for more funds.
HSUS spends 80% of it's donations just to power it's media and fund raising machines and maintain facilities, which do NOT include shelters. (HSUS runs one sanctuary, one, but no adoption facilities)

By contrast, give to local shelters or breed rescues and 90-100% will go straight to help pets and keep your local rescue insured and in existence.

I received an email from a friend in New York. It was a forward from someone else asking that people give to HSUS as a Christmas donation to help pets. I responded to the almost 50 people who were forwarded the email and advised them of the true HSUS. I also asked that they give local. Hope it stopped a few from making a mistake.

I don't like those folks in suits taking some of the money for meant doggies.

I guess asking why this is not reported on by the regular media is pointless?
