RE: Hearing on AB 1634 (Levine) - Monday, 9 July
Listed below are the Senators who sit on the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee (8 Democrats and 3 Republicans). These Senators will hear AB 1634 on Monday, 9 July at
1:30 PM in Room 3191. Please plan to attend.
Please also contact the members of the BP&E committee and tell them you oppose the bill. In addition, contact your own Senator and tell him/her the same. Letters from clubs should be on the club's letterhead and sent to both consultants (Bill Gage and Amber Thorne - addresses below) so your club can be listed as opposed in the bill analysis.
Any letters must be sent to the Committee for receipt by 5:00 PM Monday, 2 July, so your opposition is recorded in the analysis. (In the committee analysis, which is prepared by the committee consultant, clubs and associations which support the bill and those that oppose are listed by name; letters from individuals are counted and the total number is given in the analysis.)
If you need talking points or a sample letter for you or your club, or if you need to find the contact information for your own senator, go to the AKC's CA Spay/Neuter Action Center at http://www.akc.org/canine_legislation/CA_action_center.cfm
PETA has been circulating a support letter signed by 19 celebrities, including Pamela Anderson and William Shatner, and comedian Bill Maher recorded "an unsolicited video rant" in support of the bill ( Capitol Weekly, 14. June issue, p.A6). So let's give the Senators a break. Let them hear from some rational minds for a change. Please write, FAX, call.
Don't forget to contact your individual Senate representative and voice your opposition to AB 1634. The AKC website still has sample letters."
