Help! I feel like a dork, I've visited several shows in the past few months in preparation for showing my kids this fall. I'm getting ready to fill out the first entry form. Here are a few questions (I really hope someone else had the same questions at some point in time!)
1) Under 'Dog Show Class', do I write out the name of the class, or just put in the numerical code that's listed in the Premium List? Same for Class Division?
2) If I have more than one additional class and there's no room left on the entry form, do I start a second form to add to the same days shows? Will they understand not to charge extra for a first-class-entered fee?
3) I see puppy classes are usually less expensive than the other classes, and additional classes are also a lower fee than the first class. If I enter a puppy class, and an additional class that usually is full-price, do I still just pay the puppy-class fee and the additional class fee? Or do I still have to pay full-price for the first class, then the additional class price for the puppy class?
I'm fine with paying whatever it will cost for a few classes over a weekend, I just don't want to give away extra money (unless it goes to rescue), and I don't want to not be registered in the classes due to not paying enough!!
Any info would be so greatly appreciated, I should have had more questions to ask at the last show I visited! Duh! Thank you SO much! I will help the next newbie that shows up

ok, thanks!
Ok, makes sense. I try to not let it be nerve-racking, but I don't want to screw up our first weekend out! Thanks so much for your explanation.![[linked image]](http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1248315791.JPG)

Response from a show superintendent re:entering multiple classes
There is no point in entering in more than one class. First, you must win
first in every class in order to compete for winners, since the dog must be
undeated. Once you show the dog, it must be shown in every class it is
entered in, ie, if it goes in 9-12, you have to show in BBE and Open. You
can go absent in the earlier classes. We have horse people all the time who
enter in more classes, thinking it gives them an advantage. Also, the judge
only judges the dog once, so the dog doesn't get additional "ring
experience".

That wasn't confusing at all, makes complete sense now! Thanks SO much!

It's all making sense! 1 more question tho...
Wow! You guys are so awesome. I had no idea I could only enter each dog in one conformation class per day. It makes complete sense. I didn't even notice that at the shows I've been spectating at; there are so many dogs in and out of the ring and I don't know who everyone is yet, I didn't pick up on that little detail!

However, one more question:
-Is it ok for me to show a dog/bitch in the morning puppy confirmation class, and my daughter show the same puppy later the same day in Junior Showmanship? Two different entry forms to note the two different handlers? Or just add the names of both regular handler and junior handler on the same entry form? (We already got her junior handler number) Add in the Junior Showmanship class as the additional class?
Thank you SO much for the fabulous explanations!

yeah, that too
Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.
More help........
If your referring to entering a 2 or 3 day show; at the top of the entry form, there is usually the dates with blocks to check. So, if you have a 7 month old puppy, you could enter 6-9mo puppy, Open, American bred, and if you are the breeder of record, Bred by. The cost is not what is important, but here is something that might be. If you are seeking ring time, you can do as I illustrated before. But, if you are looking to garner points from this multiple entry, you have to place first in all of the entries that you entered in. I did one multiple entry at a specialty and only when someone saw the catalog, did they explain it to me.On another point, if you entered all that I put up there. Once you enter the ring in a class, you have to go through with all of them, in order to be eligible to go into winners. We personally seek out B matches, and enjoy the experience with our pups. It makes for a much happier puppy. Two or three before a "real" show, really makes a difference, and helps us see any quirks, and work on correct it, before it matters.

Not silly...just haven't done it before
Agree with anwer above.

E.G.
You have a puppy who is 8 mo old on the day the show is to be held and it is a specialty so there is a sweepstakes in Bulldogs (rarely, if ever, a sweepstakes in any breed that doesn't have at least a supported entry or is a specialty that is being held within the all breed show)
So: your entries can be:
1) Puppy Sweepstakes 6-9 mo old (& gender) No points in sweepstakes but money (not a lot) for placements but great practice, get another opinion etc
In regular classes you can enter:
6-9 Puppy + gender(Dog or Bitch)
OR
You can enter puppy in regular classes but not both....ie, if you bred the puppy you could enter 'Bred by Exhibitor' but not along with any other regular class. So you have the choice of 1 and 1 only of the regular classes:
**Puppy "AGE" +gender
**Novice + gender
**American bred + gender (if your dog was bred in the USA)
**Bred by Exhibitor + gender (if you owned or co owned the mother of the pup and therefore would be one of the breeders of the pup)
**Open + gender
Usually if you have a pup it is more 'equal' if you enter puppy in puppy class, esp if you also are not experienced.
If your puppy is right on the edge of age bracket, you enter the age class that your pup will be ON the day it is showing.
EG: show date is Aug 5th and your puppy was born Dec. 5th...The pup would be 9 mo old on the day of the show. You would enter 9-12 mo class
If your pup was born on Dec 4th, the first show of the weekend is on Aug 4th and the second show of the weekend is Aug 5th you would enter Puppy 6-9 mo on Aug 4th and Puppy 9-12 on Aug 5th. On Aug 4th your puppy would be one day shy of 9 mo....and on Aug 5th, your puppy would officially be 9 mo old and would have to show in the older class.
Are you good and confused now? Sorry...it can get complicated when age factors class.
Can anyone else explain this better? Or can you tell us the date of birth of puppy and dates of show weekend and we can advise better? You can also email me if you'd like....after that answer above you may be running from the hills to get away from me.

Re: Caution...Silly Questions/New to showing...
1) Under 'Dog Show Class', do I write out the name of the class, or just put in the numerical code that's listed in the Premium List? Same for Class Division? You write the name of the class--Puppy 6-9 dag/puppy 6-9 bitch; open dog/open bitch;Bred by exhibitor dog/ Bred by Exhibitor bitch. Intersex--all you need put is "Best of Breed." Bulldogs don't have a division.
2) If I have more than one additional class and there's no room left on the entry form, do I start a second form to add to the same days shows? Will they understand not to charge extra for a first-class-entered fee? I am not sure you can have more then one additional class--usually sweeps is the only additional class being offered. You can't enter a dog in more then one class--if you enter in a puppy class you can't also enter open or if in Bred by you can't also enter open. That is called
"multiple entries" and you need to straighten it out with the superintendent before the show ( I think--) It may be if you multiple entry you can't show in at all--never have had that problem. If you are referring to obedience or rally classes (not my thing) but if you are able to enter in several different classes I would think and don't have enough room on one entry I would think you would just use another entry form, staple them together and the superintendent will figure out if you have sent enough fees. If for some reason you don't send enough money when you show uo at the show and go to pick up your number you will be sent to the superintendents table to pay the rest of the entry before showing.
If puppy class is $15 and obed is $20 unless it is entered as an additional class and then it is $15 you would pay $15 for the puppy class and then $15 for the obed. class.
I'm fine with paying whatever it will cost for a few classes over a weekend, I just don't want to give away extra money (unless it goes to rescue), and I don't want to not be registered in the classes due to not paying enough!!

multiple classes
Not sure if this was addressed in the other answers - you can enter more than 1 class (not counting a Sweepstakes entry) It could be an Obedience entry, Stud dog or Brood bitch class, Veterans, Brace, Pedigree, etc. (Rally or Agility usually has a separate entry form) OR enter 2 or more Conformation classes such as, for example, a Puppy class if the dog is age eligible and also Open.
Some people do this for extra practice but be aware that a dog can only go back into the ring if it is undefeated - meaning that, in my example, it would need to take a 1st in it's Puppy class to be eligible to go back in for the Open class. The only time a dog that has not won a 1st place can go back into the ring is for Reserve where the 2nd place dog from the class that Winners came from goes in to compete against the other classes' 1st place dogs.
Another reason I can see for entering 2 classes would be if I had a dog or bitch that I wanted to be in Bred-By but I wasn't sure I could make the show. I might also enter Open and have someone else take the dog in for me and just not pick up the BBEX armband.
Regarding JR'S
It is a good idea to put it on the same entry. MAKE SURE... you sign the back of the form. It must be signed. It is always a good idea to put it on the same form reason is, sometimes jr's is more expensive by itself. If it is an additional class, there is sometimes a discount for the jr entry, and also sometimes it is free but only as an additional entry.!! Those are my favorite. If you ever later add a Jr. let the Super know about it in advance, they will charge you for the jr and another entry even though you already sent it in. It has happened to me. And they don't refund or credit you. Hope this helps. Enjoy the Junior ring!
