Gabe,Chubbs & I just finished a day of showing at the Tacoma KC show in Puyallup. My car died on the way down to stay at Tammy & Bailey's house last night!...so hubby rescued me and took me back home where I decided to make the 2.5 hr. drive down to the show in the early am hours. We hit bad traffic and arrived a bit late for the start of our class--fortunately, Chubbs was few dogs into the class, but the poor girl was still hot and panting from the walk to the ring (a fair hike!) and the cozy warm building didn't help matters...but my Chubby girl still made a heroic effort in the very difficult utility class--she nailed her scent articles and glove, moving stand and go outs--but unfortunately she missed a signal and her first jump so didn't qualify. When I checked the score sheets after the class I saw that she was WELL ahead of any of the other dogs in the class and would have likely had a score in the lower 190's--very nice work for any breed in this tough, unforgiving class
Gabe had the other competitors talking and I was told he was quite the "subject of conversation" around the building after he took 2nd place with a nice score of 194 in the very competitive Novice B class. Gabe recovered incredibly from a freak "distraction" when we were doing our heeling pattern and a wild overthrow of a dumbell from the Open ring next door came sailing into our ring, landing just a few feet away! The judge was very impressed at how well he reovered from this ordeal and it appeared that SHE was more flustered than my boy as she readied us for the figure 8 exercise asking the usual, "Are you ready?"...then followed with the order, "THROW IT!"...ha ha--THAT'S a command from the OPEN ring, NOT Novice! Gabe, who is just one year old, already has his CD title, but we are going to compete for national points and hope to see him listed among the Top Ten Novice Non-Sporting Dogs this year...if he keeps this work up, we should have a crack at it!
PS--I finally made it to Tammy's house and am trying to type this on her laptop, but it's a totally different feel from my Mac at home!

...didn't quite go as well for The Gabester--after having the Flying Dumbell distraction while in the ring the day before, he was again distracted during our recall exercise when the dumbell was thrown right next door as I was turning around across the ring to call him. I've been using a signal for his "come" and ALMOST went with a verbal, but as he looked back at me, I decided to do the usual and he didn't respond. I called with a verbal and he came in lickety-split, but in the OB ring they MUST respond the FIRST time so he didn't qualify
I'm feeling confident that my Chubby girl will soon be racking up those difficult utility legs and wins real soon!

Chubbs performed very nicely in her utility ring, but missed her glove and also failed to qualify--but we received some incredible comments from several judges and OB instructors and had quite the stir going on over "the bulldogs"
Huge Congrats!!!
