AKC Speaks Out Against Proposed San Antonio Ordinance

TX-RPOA E-News
From Responsible Pet Owners Alliance,
the reasonable voice regarding animal issues in Texas.
Responsible Pet Owners Alliance is an animal welfare organization,
not "animal rights" and, yes, there is a difference.
Permission granted to crosspost.

Responsible Pet Owners Alliance needs everyone's help to oppose San
Antonio's animal ordinance revision -- not just residents of San Antonio.
You can be sure PETA, HSUS and every "animal rights" group in the US are all
pressuring San Antonio city officials to pass this ordinance. They are
already bragging that it will be the second largest city in the US to do so
if they are successful. Tourism is a major industry for San Antonio. Let
the city know you won't visit any city that passes such legislation and is
not "pet friendly."

San Antonio Proposal Bad for All Dog Owners
[Wednesday, August 29, 2007]

The American Kennel Club and its Texas federation of dog owners, the
Responsible Pet Owners Alliance, are deeply concerned about the proposed
changes to the City of San Antonio's animal ordinance. These changes, as
will be proposed by the city's Animal Care Services Advisory Board, unfairly
target responsible dog breeders and owners, have no chance of improving the
quality of life for animals, and will have a significant negative impact on
San Antonio's economy. It is imperative that breeders and concerned dog
owners in San Antonio contact the Mayor and the members of the City Council
to vehemently express their opposition.

The American Kennel Club supports reasonable and enforceable laws that
govern dog ownership. We believe that the proposed animal ordinance is
unreasonable, unenforceable, and a risk to the public welfare. Among its
many onerous provisions, the current version of the proposal would require
compliance with these most burdensome policies:
