Advice and Opinions please

I have a bitch who has just done her crucite in her 2nd leg, she has had 2 operations on her first leg as it was almost repaired and then my boy fell on her and caused some more distress, now the 2nd one has gone. She will be having her operation this Friday. I spoke to my vet and thought maybe it would be best to spey her but he said she has the best throat he has ever seen on a bully and is exceptional under anaesthetic, therefore he urged me to think long and hard about it

So my question is, do you think I should spey her? Do you think her puppies will also have a weakness in their cruciates?

Advice and opinions much appreciated.

PS the second cruciate went Saturday night as my girls got into a fight (first time ever) and Beauty came off 2nd best, no blood or anything just another darn cruciate gone!

Yep its so sad

I real feel for my baby girl, she has almost been crated all her life due to her legs (darn things) and she is now so afraid of the world I was planning to take her to obedience next month but it won't be happening now. She is perfect with people and other dogs but scared of loud noises because she has been so confined. My poor baby, she is a real mummy's girl too.

Its a very hard decision!

You must be devastated to have such a turn of events!

I have been there... not to your degree but it is very upsetting all the way around. I looked at your website and now know a bit about you.

I have had numerous ACL repairs to deal with...hate it! It is so upsetting for me to see these guys in pain.

Had my big, gorgeous show prospect have the undesceded testicle and had to get him neutered!!! broke my heart. he was absolutely stunning in every regard and I could have had so much fun showing him... but, not meant to be, I guess. He had a wonderful 'rolling' gait and was very 'showy'... I loved that guy to Bits and cried for 6 weeks after he died!

How old is she?

she sounds like she is going through a rough time right now. Personally, I would spay her unless there is some earthshattering reason not to.

All vets have told me thatwhen one leg goes, typically you can count on the other being weak. I bet if he had x-rayed her 'good' leg when he did the original leg, you would see that the 2nd leg was weak, too.

I would venture to say that, yes, this is a trait that could be passed on, not to her whole litter.

She needs to just enjoy life a bit and try to feel good after her third surgery. Plus, the weight of the pregnancy could tip the scale to one of her ACL repairs and leave you with a huge dilemma.

This is only my opinion after 35 years.
